Hello,
assuming you are able to pass the NCLEX and other pre requisite tests required for immigration from the philippines.
and you are able to find an employer (not agency) who will sponsor you for a green card so you can work for them, how long (min.) do these employers/hospitals usually require you to work for them?
or is it BCIS who decides how long you need to work for that sponsoring employer?
thanks!

it is up to the hospital on how long they want contract wise for you to work for them. There will usually be a fee if you want to leave your contract earlier. I have signed a contract to work for 2 years with a cancellation fee dependant on how long I work for them depends on how much I have to pay

Two years is usually the shortest time, and some are for three years. Each contract is individual.
But suggest that you look at things another way and look for an employer that you would like to stay with for a long time, that is the way to do things. Not how long that I have to stay there. But at long term.
I work with quite a few nurses that came over years ago and are still with the same employer.
Thank you for the info SilverDragon.
cheers
Thanks Suzanne, thats good advice, i was just thinking in case for some reason the employer you end up with isnt such a good employer. i was just curious as to how long a migrant would have to stick it out before being able to freely look for another job elsewhere.
cheers.

That is the reason that the nurse needs to do their homework before signing a contract.

Suzanne is right. Take your time to choose a good employer. Don't get on the stream of nurses that just picks an employer (agency or otherwise) to to be able to sign ASAP believing that as soon as they have signed that all their paperworks will be started and they will be ahead against everyone else.
This is esp. true in the Philippines where most who have gone thru unscrupulous agencies there that do not know what they are doing are still there after 2-3 years upon signing-up while those who took the time to research a bit are able to accomplish everything even though they have signed much later than them.
I second what Lawrence has said. We see that all of the time here.

hi there...may i ask is it possible for us to find an employer without going to US? clueless on how will i start finding one after completing nclex...as much as possible i do not want to be in any agency...thanks a lot!
yes it is possible and many do telephone interviews, you need to contact hospitals in the area you want to live. Better to look once you have passed NCLEX. Have you already started the process on applying with a BON and process of license and where you want to live
Be aware with retrogression at the moment many hospitals are not doing much at the moment
thanks for the info...yup, i'll be taking nclex-calif in few weeks time...pray for me...really need that!
Most do not interview in the US as many do not have visas to come to the US to do so. But there is not one thing that can be done until you have passing results in hand of passing. I noticed that you are taking the exam next month, it will also be another four weeks that you will be waiting for your results.
