Times for drawing a Troponin Series

Published

This feels like a stupid question, something I should already know, but there's been a debate between nurses on my floor, so I'm just curious if there's a consensus on this forum.

When drawing a Troponin series at 0, 3, & 6hrs, do you:

A.) Draw the labs at (times are just an example): 0000 (0hr), 0300 (3hr), and 0900 (6hrs from the last lab, equaling 9hrs total)?

Or B.) Draw them at 0000 (0hr), 0300 (3hr), and 0600 (6hr, as in 6hrs from the first lab draw)?

I've tried looking it up in our policies, but they just say to draw 0, 3, & 6hr labs, then q6h until it peaks. Any clarification would be appreciated. TIA

We do the first 3 draws q3 hours. (0000, 0300, 0600). Then go to q6 until the provider is satisfied and discontinues them.

The first draw is 0-hr and the next two are in relation to it. Draw at the zero hour mark (initial eval), the 3-hr mark, and the 6-hr mark. (So, in case that is not clear, if the first draw is at 1400, the second will be at @ 1700 and the third will be at 2000).

Bring this to your manager's attention for education. Regardless of what a place's specific protocol is for this, there shouldn't be widespread debate about what it means.
