How long in general do you have between assignments? If you extend an assignment is there say a week in between or just continue as if nothing changed?

As much as you like, and either way.

I continued as usual right into my extension with no break. I will however take a 2-3 week break before my next contract begins. That all depends on the start date.

We just extended and took a week at about week 6 on the new contract. If the hospital asks you to extend they are normally happy to work with you on some time off. Just request when you take the extension.

Whatever you want, just have it put into your contracts. I take about a month off in between assignments usually. But if I extend I like to just continue working through and ask for a vacation time put into the contract.

May I ask where do you put your belongings between assignments?

You call the shots, if you are ending your current assignment. Your agency will push you to work with no time between assignments.

Every day YOU work is $$ in THEIR pocket.

Extending a contract is described in your current contract.

Check with your agency first on their policy. You CAN take off as much time as you want. But I found out the hard way that if you are not under contract when your current assignment ends, your healthcare insurance stops. If they think you will be working (and you have been with them more than one assignment), they may agree to extend your insurance, as long as you pay them around $100/week. So if you do not need healthcare insurance, then this is not an issue. So take off as much as you like, as long as you can afford it. I always like to take an additional side trip/vacation on my way to a new assignment.
