U.S.A. Virginia

Hello all! It's a little early, but I wanted to make a new thread for all those applying this summer for TCC's Spring program! I dropped off my application this past Tuesday and am already ready for October 15th to hurry up and get here, lol!

Hello Brittney. My name is Cherylaine. Yes I am new to the program. I am a LPN so I will just be starting this semester. I'm excited, but nervous since I'm the new kid. How have things been going? Are clinicals just on Saturdays? Are they all day clinicals?

Hey Cherylaine, my name is Rachel and I'm in the evening/weekend group. Our clinicals have been 12 hours on Saturdays from 6:30 to 6:30. The hours and days for clinicals are always subject to change (basically we go when and where they tell us to go haha but it has been Saturday so far). I was nervous before starting too, but everyone in our group is awesome. We all help each other and want each other to succeed and finish together. You will be welcomed into the group :) I hope to make it past pharmacology so that I can meet you!!

Hi. I am new to this site and so glad to see members who are studying at TCC. For those who got in to the program, would you mind sharing what were your gpa's and hesi scores? Is it true that having a working experience before applying will give you better chances to get accepted? Thank you

Goodluck to you guys! Also, does anyone here know if the GPA they take at TCC just for the prereqs on their program or your overall gpa including classes that are not part of your prereq?

I believe only the pre-req's are given points in the admission decision not the overall GPA.

Hello everyone! It seems like there is a mixed group on this thread to I will ask a general question to everybody. Has anyone had experience with the alternates list for TCC nursing program? I applied for this Fall semester start and I am still on the alternates list. Currently I am working on all the requirements as if I was accepted. Has anyone been or know anyone that was on the alternates list? Any info is greatly appreciated. I have been waiting for so long... Thank you!

I just found out I got in to cohort 1!!!! I am so excited! Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 13th!

yay! so maybe by monday we will know something.. my anxiety is through the roof.. i am an LPN trying to bridge. My HESI score was like a 78% and i didnt have straight A's, however, i did in nursing school so i am praying that will help me out :/

IF you dont mind me asking, how bad were your grades? I have all A's and B's with the exception of ENG 112 which is a Transfer credit of a C. I scored the same exact thing as you on your HESI. I still need to take my sciences, but im just curious to know what I can do to still get in with such a below average HESI score :/

what was your HESI score?

Hello! Im currently taking pre-requisites to apply into the nursing program in the fall.. either cohort will be fine with me but by the deadline I will only have the HESI, A&P I AND II, ENG11, PSY 200 and 235, and PHI 220 completed. I plan to complete the rest of my pre-requisites in the spring so I will meet all of the Pre-requisites by the start of the cohort! if you are currently in the program or recently got accepted please help! i need some insight and would like to be able to weigh my options out 2MzmrmldDUluFszY4BeNRUhFw8YnK8nLzkBNSYABAA==

For all of you that applied last year: What do you all think my chances are of getting in with an 83 on the HESI and a 3.4 GPA? Thanks in advance!

Hi all!

I'm getting really nervous reading all of these comments! I started my application process yesterday and plan to apply this summer. I have a BS from vcu but I do not have micro or A&P 1/2 i've noticed a lot of you are taking those classes before the program? I thought they were part of the program- am I wrong about that? or are you all just taking them to get them out of the way?

Also how hard was the HESI and what sections do they use?

bowersjc, good luck with your application, I applied back in 2015 so not sure if any changes have been made in the evaluation process, it may be helpful to check with the folks that applied more recently to the program. I believe overall the point system is used in ranking the applicants, most weight is given to HESI scores, secondly your sciences (esp A&P and Micro) are weighed - that's why many people take them prior to the program to increase their odds of acceptance, lastly your psychology/ethics are added. HESI when I applied had reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, math, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, and critical thinking. It's all pretty fairly basic stuff in HESI, nothing too deep from what I remember.

Anyways, hope this helps,

Again, good luck with the application.
