Joe, which episode was it? And which version? Original? The Next Generation? Deep Space Nine? Voyager?
We got the A/C serviced yesterday. It is used A LOT, good to keep it in shape! It looks like it was installed in 2009, so is not a "young" unit. I guess one of these days it may need to be replaced. But not today!
Today the same company is sending someone out to service our all-house water filtration unit. Car needs tires, too... it's always something!
Other than the man coming to perform the service, we have no plans for the day. It was 91 degrees yesterday, but nights are cooling down to the 60's.
Saturday we will drive to the "high desert" to jam with ppl from the bluegrass association who are camping there. We have camped with them in the past, but dh doesn't prefer to camp there. It's usually REALLY windy, and the sites they get are pretty unprotected from the wind. So, we go out for the day. We're still able to visit and jam, so that's OK.
Have a good day!
We had a smattering of rain this morning. It still looks smoky, air quality is "unhealthy" but nearly as bad as yesterday. I tried to go for a little run. It was nice to get out, but my throat was burning, nose running, and a bit of a headache. Tomorrow will be better. I have an eye appointment today (yuck!) for a second opinion. My regular optometrist thinks there has to be a different explanation for my visual field cut, and I am sure she is wrong. I had atrial flutter and a small stroke. But now, 3 years later, she is sure its something else. I am sure today will show nothing new. And I got a call from the cardiology office to make an appointment in 2 weeks, but the scheduler couldn't tell me why. So I am waiting for the nurse to call. I hate all these bloody appointments! At least I've reached my out of pocket max for the year, so its all no charge to me.
I watched a Zoom call this morning about the new computer system for work. It seemed to focus on how to schedule appointments, which didn't seem very applicable. Oh well, I did my duty by watching.
We watched the youngest grandchild practice hockey last night. It almost makes me want to get out on the ice. Almost.
I am voting for take out pizza and salad for dinner tonight. I always feel icky after having my eyes dilated, so I am not going to cook.
We had pizza and chicken delivered last night from Pizza Hut, and got it for NUTHIN'! It seems that last time they delivered, they messed up the order big-time, and hubby called in to complain, so they had put him on the list for a free order. We had forgotten about it, so we were pleasantly surprised. Hubby said the delivery person was about our age, and he guessed she wasn't expecting a tip, but he gave a her a VERY generous tip and said she thanked him all the way back to her car; he said he thought she was going to cry.
Hubby went over to see a woman who used to work at a nearby convenience store...she and he husband and 3 year old are pretty poor, and have been staying at various motels per some social services arrangements. They have to move every two weeks. The little boy was born just after this woman's dad died, and they started calling him "Papaw _________"(first name). He brought a small toy truck for the kid. The woman told him that all she had had to feed the child last night for supper was bread. TSK! Anyway, hubby gave her a $20/bill and told her to go buy some food to feed the kid. He told her that if he found out she had spent even one penny of it for booze, he would never give her any money again. (Once he went out to buy diapers for the little guy.) He said, "I may be a soft-hearted fool, but I felt like I needed to give her the $20." He doesn't give her stuff all the time, though; he thinks she needs to get a job and STOP DRINKING! (Imagine that!)
The eye place called and left a message that my new glasses were ready, but honestly, I just don't feel like going out, even though I'd be excited to get them. I'll go tomorrow. Hubby said he could go pick them up for me today, but, I have to be sure they are fitted and the lenses are correct, and he can't do that for me!
Nannie kept her overnight peeing on the chux pad last night, so I didn't have to change her bed. Just her clothes. Day before yesterday she'd gotten EVERYTHING wet....from her knees to her shoulder-blades. UGH.
Gads, you should see how FAT our 'pet' groundhog is getting! I think I told you he took up residence under the shed; he spends almost all day chewing up acorns and whatever else he eats. The deer come in and chow down also. Since we have not been spending a lot of time out on the patio like we did last year, the deer have been coming up closer to the back of the house. There are 7 'regulars' who visit and eat.
Last night's TV was dreadful....ie, NOTHING on all of the channels that even slightly appealed to us. It's tough coming off of the Baseball watching habit. Our team lost the last 2 games, so the Phillies are the ones going into the finals, and since we are Braves fans, we do not care to watch the dastardly team that beat them this year.
Oh, the lovely evening has just started....hubby wanted to know what we wanted him to pick us up for supper, and I don't really care, but to be able to give him an order, I said I'd just have a grilled cheese sandwich and small fries. When he asked Nannie, she murmured something about not wanting a lot (she just had her lunch a few hours ago. Hubby threw up his hands and said he guessed he'd just make himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and we could do whatever we wanted to do. What makes him mad about supper ordering, or not ordering, I do not know. If we don't want any particular foods, he gets frustrated. Of course Nannie will get whatever I get (copycat!). I have a few Panera bowls (Lemon-chicken something-or-other) I can pop into the microwave. I hear him ordering something on the phone upstairs, so maybe he'll cool his jets---------
Joe, I prefer in-person meetings, too. We live in a small town so it's not as if we have to travel far.
dianah, I agree that it is *always* something! Our HVAC system is original to the house, which my parents built in 1994/95. Hubs and our A/C guy keep it going but sometimes I wonder if we'd be better off to go ahead and replace it with a new, perhaps more efficient, one. They believe they're doing the right thing.
J22, hope the eye exam went well.
Stars, oh, the irony of him thinking the young mom needs to stop drinking!
I had a haircut appt this morning and then stopped by the house because I'd left my phone (!). Hubs was cleaning his mom up, had her in the shower. He tells me that not long after he did that, he went back in the living room and thought she smelled bad again, and sure enough she needed another change.
Our niece let me know today that her dad (Hubs' brother-in-law) had another cardiac event while at the gym. This time the blockage is in a place that will require open heart surgery. She thinks it might happen tomorrow, in Indianapolis. She is the one who has been so helpful with stepson.
Stars, we have a pecan tree (well, really, it's our next-door neighbor's) in the back and it should be dropping nuts soon. There are a number of squirrels but I haven't seen other wildlife. Your groundhog sounds ready for Winter.
Yep, that tubby groundhog will have a warm, cozy Winter while he is hibernating under the shed!
Hubby brought back my grilled cheese sandwich, and had an order of chicken livers for himself and Nannie. She didn't want to eat anything, which irritated the beejeebers out of him. He said, "Fine. If she doesn't want to eat, she can sit down there and get hungry." I tried to explain she had only had her lunch about 2 + 1/2 hours prior to him getting supper, and if she gets hungry later I can fix her something to eat. But, he just wanted to be p.o'd. He really has a worse time about Nannie than I do, and HE doesn't have to do much of anything with regards to her care. In my fantasy, Nannie is homed in a nursing home that will not bust us broke, and hubby, being less aggravated with her, would quit drinking. I KNOW! I KNOW! DREAM ON! Well, I did say it was a fantasy, after all.
There's a church downtown that has RN's/social workers on staff to help with health, elders, family, references, etc. I may try to get in touch with someone there to see if there's ANYTHING they can come up with. And I still have to research the financial advisors. I wish hubby would step up and do more about the problem of his mother, but he's not in any condition to do anything helpful.
She has been more and more getting the News, Political Ads, regular ads, and various TV programs all mixed up and tries to explain things in an altogether jumbled way. I have taken to listening and nodding AS IF she is making sense. No more questions about what she thinks she is trying to say.
G'day!
Can't complain much about today. Had a good ratio today. A nurse on our sister unit went home sick so that side was understaffed.
Had to deal with a kid who (probably 22) complaining his jaw wouldn't open with his jaw wired shut. Plus he whined about pain when he should have been discharged. Wouldn't eat. Wouldn't talk. I had to explain to him how to drink with a syringe and that he could talk that nothing was wrong with his voice. Or hands because he acted like the couldn't do the syringe himself. The he types into his phone "I'm military and need to go back to work ASAP". I hope my eyes didn't role at my shock that such a whiney crybaby was in the military.
Yes, it's always something.
Stars, I didn't take a before picture because my bathroom was in such bad shape after some tiles fell off, the sink and bathtub were rusted and the floor tiles dirty. I'll put an after up maybe tomorrow.

NJ22 hope the air quality improves
Tweety glad the remodel is about done
Hi Ado and Stars
Out of curiosity I checked my fiber intake, and it turns out I get enough for the day even without the main meal
Was quiet enough yesterday to do some CEUs before lunch, though got busier towards the end of the day. Hopefully today will be quiet all day
Quiet evening last night too, just exercise and knitting. Tried watching Star Trek but it was a pretty bad episode
Tonight have grocery shopping followed by a vestry meeting. It's in person, which I prefer, despite being a bit more time consuming. Hopefully we won't end too late
Will be warmer today, will get up to about 60
