Sort of a ho hum day here in TB land. I watched a taped educational offering that wasn't too bad. I am working with a clerk about getting my trip to Palm Springs booked. They are paying for much of it, but I have to fill out the registration, find the flights and the hotel to stay in. She will fill in the blanks and pay. I could pay and ask for reimbursement, but that can take months. I will have to submit meals and taxi when I get back. There is a staff retreat scheduled in 2 weeks that I am required to go, even though it would fall on my scheduled day off. I hate those things. Too touchy-feely for me. Dh just texted me to ask if we had some home COVID tests. Apparently he was exposed on his one day trip to Napa, CA. Ugh. I can always bring a couple home from work.
Still cool and shower-y. It could be worse, I could be in New Mexico.
Hello, all~
I think we are supposed to get some rain this evening. The clouds were moving west to east, then started moving east to west. Or maybe it was the other way around; anyway, looked like the upper atmosphere had reversed itself. Hmmm. It was a "Gosh that sun is bright!" morning, and now it is a "Gosh it's dark and cloudy" afternoon.
Another day of laundry; just three loads today. I am going to make hubby wear a bib; anything with a tomato sauce ALWAYS splats down on his t-shirt!
Can't remember if we won or lost the ballgame yesterday! Come to think of it, I think we won by a 2-run walk-off homer! Another game tonight. Nannie has been getting stubborn about going to be because hubby always teases her---"Isn't it time for you to go to bed?" She said, "No." He keeps pushing every few minutes and she gets mad. "I thought you were going to bed?" ...."NO, I'm going to stay up and watch the game." But I don't blame her; it aggravates ME, and he's not even teasing me! However it IS his fault, I said to him, that she ends up staying up until 11:30 PM! BAH!
Last night he said, "Well, Momma, you are making it tough on us; we want to make wild-kangaroo love in the middle of the floor, and it's very awkward to have you watching us." I said I thought that "wild-kangaroo love-making would be pretty awkward whether someone was watching or not!"
Hubby is at his Dr's appt, and when that's over, he said he will bring BBQ home for Nannie and himself. I ordered a pepper-steak sub, as their BBQ is tough to chew. He likes to get stuff from that restaurant (The Smokehouse) because he has suddenly become enamored by their minced white cold-slaw, and gets a pint of it every few days. One of these days we are going to have to start cooking supper again, even if it is only 2 days a week. That debit card we use drains $$ fast when we order out every night! I half-wish that we each could get our own meals instead of having to come to a consensus about where we will go to pick it up. They are always ordering pretty much the same-old-same-old thing, where-as I prefer a variety. Hubby sometimes says, "Why do you always have to be different?" Nannie doesn't like Chinese or Mexican, and hubby is the most beef-and-potatoes person I have ever met, so the "twain" doesn't meet a lot of the time. I just tell him to let me know what restaurant he wants to go to to get supper, and then I can tell him what to order for me. Then, after I think it's settled, he'll say "...or, I could go to_________,or to ______,or to_______." (I don't care! YOU decide! GAH!)
He just called and said his doc-appt is over and he is going to pick up supper. I said okay. Then Nannie wakes from her drowsing and she asks, "Did he say anything about what the doctor said at his appointment?" Uh, Nannie, the call didn't even last 30 seconds, he didn't have time to say anything else! He will tell us when he gets in.
Ah, so well, it is time to switch laundry loads and then get Nannie's meds and drink. Times are so exciting, y'know. I reckon I'll come back here and update y'all if anything interesting came from the appointment.
Toodle-rah!
Indeed, Stars, you have exciting times. Especially the wild kangaroo love-making. I can't even visualize that.
Joe, hope your day was not as hectic as yesterday.
I'm hoping for a little less excitement at home this evening. We have one more Hello Fresh meal for this week. Today we had snow cones for hospital week. I got to take a tour of the new hospital. Still hard to tell much, but it is coming along.
Did anyone read on line about the couple that woke up with a strange dog sleeping in their bed with them. They have three other dogs, so having a dog or two on the bed isn't abnormal, but they woke up the other morning, saw the dog and said "Who are YOU?" Turns out it was a dog from a ways down the same road as they live on, but they'd never seen it before. Apparently the owners (when they located them on facebook) didn't know their dog had slipped it's leash. But how did it get into the house it decided to sleep in? I don't know, unless there was a doggie door it came in through, or it knows how to open doors! Their own dogs didn't even respond to a strange dog coming in and getting into bed with them, just moved over and made space for it! Funny story!
Oh, the Dr's visit---Hubby is to stay on the Lasix and see the doc again on June 2nd. He drew some more blood to check on his potassium level. Hubby won't eat bananas anymore, because, he says, "They gag me and gas me up." I know V-8 has lots of potassium in it. But I suspect some of the other foods w/ lots of potassium are not stuff he'd eat. Gotta find SOMETHING he will eat, in case he is kept on the Lasix. Oh well. It will all work out. And, let's see, the doc said he couldn't understand the two ER docs who said they weren't going to do anything for him, like draw out the fluid in the bottom of his (L) lung. This is why I hate 2nd and 3rd hand info about his Dr's appts.:I had questions and I don't know that hubby asked any of them or if he is relaying the correct info to the doc OR me! It is frustrating! Anyway, I suppose it's nothing critical...
No ballgame between Red Sox and Braves tonight. Although the TV (cable) listing says there is a game between them, currently playing on Ch. 60, when I turn to that channel, nope, instead there is Cincinnati and Pittsburgh playing. BAH!
In addition, everyone in this house is ?CRANKY? with each other tonight!
Bailing out! ?
Good evening.
Joe, hope the day wasn't too crazy.
Ado, hope you have a nice peaceful evening.
Stars, did you know the emoji you used at the very end of your post above is a sexting symbol. I'll let your imagination run with that. Hope everyone's crankiness settles down.
Work has been busy. I missed posting yesterday but was in a bad mood anyway.
As I knew in my heart of hearts with my bad dental karma he told me I have a cavity under the crown that feel off and need that taken care of. Another $1600 gone..."oh and your insurance didn't pay as much for the last one and you owe us another $100".
I also know in my heart of hearts there will be an issue with my homeowners insurance and I will be paying out the butt for that. I just have a feeling because I know how the world works for me. LOL
Yeah, I know V-8 has a lot of sodium. Oh well! I've never seen hubby drink any OJ. He likes melon but says because he is diabetic, it isn't good for him. He will eat sweet potatoes .... fried. (!) But thanks for the reminder of WHY the V-8 isn't such a good idea with him being on Lasix. I know that potassium is best consumed within a food, rather than a supplement.
Tweety- you do know that on the politics thread I wasn't referring to you as being snide ... That other poster just irked me with the comment, "I can read it to you but I can't understand it for you" remark. So smug! ('Whut a smaht-a$$ that one iz', she said in her best Bawstin aksent.) Anyway, it was his reference to you as having a 'feeble' understanding of something, not your response about the politician having a feeble understanding. Just wanted to keep it straight. Speaking of 'straight'... thanks for the um, 'heads-up", uh, cue, about the emoji, because you KNOW I had NO clue about that! I was actually looking for something to symbolize bailing water out of my sinking mental boat! Guess I guessed wrong! ? w00t!
Trying to think what we had to discourage our renal patients from eating/drinking because of high potassium. Orange juice and oranges, yes. Sweet potatoes and to a lesser degree any potato. There is reduced-sodium V8 but it tastes awful. Milk, yogurt, avocado, spinach, broccoli, beans and peas/lentils.
lo-sodium V8 is tolerable with some low-sodium seasoning added. IMO.
We returned the RV to storage today. Which entails dumping the gray and black tanks (= sewage) and flushing the tanks and then parking the RV and putting tire covers on. We have had some things stolen from the outer storage compartments, so dh always moves a few things to inside the RV, in case the outer compartments are accessed again. He also parks pretty close to the RV in the next space, so the compartment doors are unable to be opened fully. Just trying to discourage nefarious minds.
The new fabric bought for the insulating "curtain" between the cab and the "house," I prepared for sewing. It is too wide, and may be too short by an inch or so, which may let in cold air. I cut a swath and pinned it onto the middle, bottom section. I will sew it tomorrow or this weekend. Then it will be long enough where it matters. The foam I bought, for over the stair area (LOTS of cold air comes in there) fits well, and we hope these two efforts will help insulate the inside at night.
I had a nice chat with oldest ds today, and tomorrow I will take him to get his blood drawn for a routine lab test. I have some mail to turn over to him, too, and a recipe and a spice I want to give him. I bought some Bald Buck seasoning salt, and used it to make a Cajun Chicken Pasta dish that was tasty! Thought he might like to try it. His two roommates are good cooks, they might enjoy trying it too.
I practiced my guitar playing today. I am trying each day to practice with the metronome for a bit. I am also practicing a different strum technique (for better tone), and a different way of holding the pick. This is all VERY difficult, after 15+ years of doing things one way, suddenly changing! I intend to practice every day, to help solidify these new techniques.
IT was 85 degrees today, with a nice breeze. We have no plans for the weekend, though there is a hymn sing Sunday afternoon at Oak Glen. Dh doesn't sing, but he may not mind going and playing mandolin in the background.
Have a good evening!
