Hi everyone :)
I was wondering if anyone has thoughts or experiences with St. Joseph Medical Center. My Mom tells me (from her experience there when she was pregnant) that its a wonderful hospital, very caring, with great values. I haven't heard anything else about it though. I got a great feeling off of their website, but I'm wondering what its really like. Would it be a good place to work? Are there any major flaws or good things about it? Does anyone know if its nurses are unionized? Do they ever hire new grads?
I'm asking because I'm looking ahead to the future (about 2 years to be exact) when I'll be a new BSN grad. I've been researching job opportunities in WA state for new grad nurses and it looks like it will be pretty tough to get my foot in the door. However, I've heard (and it seems so on the St. Joe. website) that St. Joseph's would be somewhat willing to hire a new grad via their internship program. Does anyone know if I would have a chance there? I know Tacoma area hospitals are my best bet if I want a job as a new grad in WA state. I'll have experience as a CNA in a nursing home and as a volunteer in the ER of a hospital when I graduate, in case that helps my chances. I know that the fact that my degree will come from a out of state college will hurt my chances, but I really, really want a job in my home (WA) state, so I'm willing to try anything!
Thanks for your thoughts everyone! I'd love to hear anyone's info, no matter how small! :)
Doesn't anyone have any thoughts/comments ? Please :)

I have heard it was a good hospital from family members who have been patients there. I have applyed a dozen or more times and haven't had any luck at that hospital but do have an interview coming up at one of St Joe's partners. Hopefully your search will be easier then mine...good luck!
Thank you for your input! I hope your interview goes well! :)

Given your work experience in health care and the fact that you'll be graduating with a BSN I think you will have a decent chance of getting hired there, or perhaps at one of the sister hospitals. I'm not a psychic and am not sure how the job market will be then, though.
Thank you for your thoughts, it makes me feel better. I really want to come back home, so I hope things work out :)

Hello,
I currently work for the Franciscan corporation and do think it's a pretty good one to work for. The hospitals seem pretty well staffed and St Joe's seems to be a nice place to work, from what I hear from people.
Anyway, when I was at orientation almost a year ago, there were TONS of new grads! Not all BSN either. I felt like an old lady in there.

St.Joe's hired around 300's of new grad for residency last summer 2009. There are still openings in other local hospital of Franciscan Health System (such as ST.Clare in Lakewood, ST.Anthony in Gig Harbor, St.Francis in Federal way). If u r interested, try to apply now since they have couple more openings.
Med-Surg AM shift are very very busy, Eve shifts are busy still, not sure of night shift. Most people prefer Night shift to learn things and not to be overwhelmed by the MD orders+ Discharging pt and then admitting pt after the other left.
Team work there is very good. Charge nurse and other RNs help out a lot.

Hey, I guess I am a late poster on here!
I graduated from my BScN last May 2010 (Canadian RN here), and have been working surgical and cardiology/telemetry ever since. Just wrote my NCLEX this week and passed! I have a job offer lined up @ St Joes doing the critical care residency program - anybody have any experience with that? I am really looking forward to this job opportunity. I won't be starting until the New Year though d/t getting all my immigration paperwork and what not in order.

Hi :) Congrats on getting a job at St. Joes and passing the NCLEX. I'm a nursing student going to school in MI who would LOVE to come back home to WA state and get a job at St. Joes. The critical care residency program would be a dream come true. I am wondering if you could tell me how hard it was for you to get this position, how much of a chance a new grad like me has, and if you have any advice for someone looking to get a job there as a new grad. Thank you!
ETA: I am currently CNA in a hospital on the Cardiac floor and working on my BSN. Also have some experience in the nursing home. Do you think this could be of benefit when applying there?
