I feel you. I have one wish that they (manager) would remove CNA and give you less patients but you would give them total care. work in Critical care at NOC and there are some freaking lazy CNA who give attitutes to new nurses on the floor (including me) and talk to you like you knew less than them (yet I came from different floor of the hospital and has been there for 2 yrs). I had worked in a good facility as an LPN but there were lazy charge RN too who would read advertise papers in the beginning of shift and stayed overtime to charge in the end. There are CNAs who go to smoke and chit chat w buddies who share similar laziness. I am burnt out and wish never had to be a patient anywhere else.

Would you be willing to work in Tacoma? It's a long commute but St.Joseph is currently hiring on GI post-op med-surg floor. Im working there for a year and loving it and my manager said she is currently having 4-5 openings.

Does anyone here know anything about working at PCU (Progressive Care Unit-step down from ICU) ST.Francis in Federal Way? I'd greatly appreciate any response regarding working there: environment, team work, nurse:patient ratio... or anything at all about that specific unit. Thank you very much.

St.Joe's hired around 300's of new grad for residency last summer 2009. There are still openings in other local hospital of Franciscan Health System (such as ST.Clare in Lakewood, ST.Anthony in Gig Harbor, St.Francis in Federal way). If u r interested, try to apply now since they have couple more openings. Med-Surg AM shift are very very busy, Eve shifts are busy still, not sure of night shift. Most people prefer Night shift to learn things and not to be overwhelmed by the MD orders+ Discharging pt and then admitting pt after the other left. Team work there is very good. Charge nurse and other RNs help out a lot.

OMG, I just got off a shift ( still in orientation-soon to be on my own) and already have a thought of never wanting to go back. I want to leave nursing and do sth else. Its normal for me to have a 15 minutes meal break once in a while for the whole shift, and totally routine to not have any break/meal/restroom break. I feel bad for myself for not taking care of myself. I only eat once a day before getting to work. There are days I do not go to bathroom until leaving the shift. I am so happy to read others' notes describing this (not in a negative way) that I am on the same page. But no, I dont want to be late, forgot to check doctors' orders and their unreadable handwriting. and multiple labs orders, forgot to check orders... The worst part is the my pt group often will be discharged or just arrive to the room at the beginning of the shift, and screw my shift-I am definitely gonna behind today and face the same fate of no break. Is this fair? It takes time to get used to the routine, but this is way too much for me to handle. I really hope many others do not have to go through what I just had to go though. Hello to reality!

How did you guys get the results so soon? What did you use to find out (e.g.quick result)?

I wonder about MRSA becoming so common nowadays that isolation seems to be found in many floor of hospital or health facilities. My concerns are as nurses or healthcare provider with direct contact with those with MRSA, how should we wash our scrubs at home (despite the fact we wear gowns and gloves, and wash hands, I still dont not like wearing them off worksite and bring them home to wash)? So any input on how to deal with this? Thank you.

ILovePeople, You get the titer from your doctor who would get the blood draw from your arm vein and send to the lab. The doctor then would get the result within a week and interpret and write the letter saying you're protected. You need to give the result paper and the doctor's note to the nursing office. I had insurance when had those done. Specifically how much the cost I cant remember, around $100 for the hepaitis B titer. You can try public health clinic.

I'mOnMyWay, Thank you for the info. I have one question regarding the remaining students in the Nx program at TCC. How is the remaining number of Nx students at TCC from the beginning to the subsequent quarters? I look over the website and it seems like only half of the students registered for classes, is it that tough? I appreciate any info about this program! Thank you!

This is a new facility of retirement +assisted living community! I have been on training and orientation, all I have done was passing meds, insulin, BG check, wound care. Since the first day, I came in and started to pass PO med and the above mentioned right away until the 5th day! I was suprise that the nurse who oriented/trained me who appears also to be the DNS has been also an LPN for only 3 years! The training was insufficent! Before starting working there, I was given a punch of papers to sign on about policy and blah blah blah...despite the fact that I was not oriented to! All of the policy manuals are located in the office. But I am expected to read all of them, even though I was not given time to! The whole time was passing meds! One more thing, in the last minute when I was about to leave, I was told to document in the residents' charts! The last minutes! Some I didnt even have time to assess or meet during the day (some's med were given by the DNS when I was running to pass meds to in another wing). I feel like I am being taken advantage of! I'd like to see how the orientation(s)/training(s) anywhere else is/are! Was there any day of training that included policy and certain nursing procedures...! None I was given, only being told to pass meds! I feel like I should just leave the place because it is not supportive and there's no one I can talk to (esp. if my concerns were about the DNS)! The executive director is brand new, only 1 month there, and knows nothing about nursing (and she/he would talk to the DNS if it was about nursing). I wonder what happened to the previous RN executive director...When I have some concerns and talk to the person, I don't feel like I can have the answer! _________________________ One thing I'm concerned is if starting a new job, it'd be a disadvantage because of leaving the place so soon and it would negatively affect my future employment! The other 2 nurses have been here less then 1 year, making me suspicous because of the internal issues I have not known about (one mentioned "this place is very unorganized")! And the previous executive director was also an RN . One of the staff there also told me that there is a high ratio of nursing assistant turnover (meaning they come and leave the jobs)! What do you guys think of this place? Should I leave and find a better facility to work for? In your opinion, what should I say in case of being asked why I left the position after only 1 week of orientation? Any input is appreciated! Thank you for reading! I hope to get some feedback ASAP!

It took me a while (2 months) because I did not work for healthcare field and usually for my type of license (LPN), hospitals dont want much! Some of my classmates who worked in a healthcare facility already got the job there after they got their license. I highly suggest students before their graduation to apply for jobs, applying as many as possible! Some simple job ads could possibly the ones that take you! Your resume and cover letters are important! If you had any honor or awards during school, esp. nursing, remember to put them your resume! I did not want to spend time applying for jobs because it was the NCLEX I wanted to pass. 1 of my classmate did not study for the NCLEX and searched for the job, he failed and now is studying for the NCLEX. I do not regret spending time studying for the NCLEX, rather than waiting for another 3 months to retake the exam.

i didnt say the name correctly! "nursing technician registered " is the term for rn- student to be employed at hospitals or such facilities! "patient care technician" means cna (certified nursing assistant).
