Thoughts on Denver School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Denver School of Nursing? I noticed they have several start dates throughtout the year so does this mean the acceptance rate is decent?

If anyone has some general advice on getting into the school I would greatly appreciate it. I have an A in every pre-req they require so I think I'm off to a good start.

You apply online, just google sallie mae and you'll get the website. It all depends on your credit rating, on one application is the same. The only people that can answer your questions are sallie mae, so give'em a call and they will walk you through it.

ya I understand that it depends on your credit score, but from what I hear, you need "perfect" credit and it is almost impossible to get...i was wondering if someone who got the sallie mae loan could give me a little hope...please!

I don't get the loan but I can tell you what the admin. assist. at DSN told me........she said you need good credit AND you must be a home owner in order to qualify. I don't own a home so that pretty much cancelled me out. If you want more answers, I would suggest starting a whole new topic on the subject. You will probably get more replies. :o)

I was just approved for the total tuition of school with a co-signer ($36k). I will tell you that my co-signer has near perfect credit and does own his own home. If you are able to find someone like this you should have no problem being approved. I tried to apply on my own (I have really good credit too) and was denied b/c I do not have enough "collateral" since I am 25 and do not own a home. Hope this helps.

Do they retain their students once their admitted? I've heard horror stories of people be kicked out after they have been admitted to certain programs. Thanks for any info on retention rate of DSON.

From what I know, as long as you have completed your pre-reqs they pretty much accept you. I didn't have to wait at all when I went there for my LPN and only had to wait 4 months when I went back for my RN. That is a good thing about the school! I graduated in December and passed NCLEX 1st try!!

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this statement about pre-reqs. You also have to be able to finance (or outright pay) for the school as well, that is a huge factor. That is why I can't get in. I don't own a house, so I needed a co-signer for a loan, but I don't have anyone to co-sign. And I have no one I can borrow money from.

I would never pay their price I am a current student at FRCC Westminster and I am getting my education for half the price! Long waitlist but SOOOOO worth it. Good luck to you. Oh and I did not qualify for loans either all I got was 10000 a school year and they are government loans. Everyone is approved for these kind of loans. Call Financial aid with questions they are very helpful

I am a current BSN student at DSN, and if you check the FAFSA website we have a federal school code now, so you can get federal loans. I can tell you that for sure, over half of my tuition is covered by federal loans! That also means that the quarters are filling up a lot quicker, so if you want to get info and you are almost done with your prerequisites, you should be proactive.

Just be aware that their accreditation isn't accepted by most grad programs, and I believe, the military. That and

And their high tuition being the reason it is easier to get in to.

as I have said about 50 times before, they are currently working on NLN accreditation which IS accepted by grad programs and the military.

Yep, I know we will have accreditation by the time I graduate. Even if they didn't, as long as it was accredited a year or 2 after I graduate it would still be fine. Most masters program require a MINIMUM 1 year practice as a RN before you can apply. People who don't go to the school (or aren't planning on going) probably shouldn't give advice about what you don't really know about.

What advice was I giving? I was just sharing some factual information. Isn't that what this website is for? Was anything I said not accurate?

How do you know I'm not considering DSON? As it turns out, you are right. I was considering it as I have also heard it is a good program. I stopped considering DSON because of the accreditation issue. Thankfully, I was accepted into another program anyway. I do hope that DSON is a good program as I will someday be a new nurse grad and will undoubtly be working with DSON grads.

I know bfrdncr41 has said 50 times before that DSON is working on NLN accreditation, but the fact is that they are not accredited. They have been "working on" NLN accreditation for several years. You only have to read old postings on this site to see that. When the big "DSON is nationally accredited" news came out last fall, it was disappointing to find out it was with ACCST and not NLN or CCNE. On top of that, if the NLN's website is accurate, DSON does not even have candidate status yet. In my opinion, DSON is not going to be NLN accredited anytime in the near future despite what the salespeople, I mean, admissions counselors tell you. I may very well be wrong, but I wasn't willing to bet 36 g's and 2 years of my life to find out.
