Thoughts on Denver School of Nursing?

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Denver School of Nursing? I noticed they have several start dates throughtout the year so does this mean the acceptance rate is decent?

If anyone has some general advice on getting into the school I would greatly appreciate it. I have an A in every pre-req they require so I think I'm off to a good start.

What advice was I giving? I was just sharing some factual information. Isn't that what this website is for? Was anything I said not accurate?

How do you know I'm not considering DSON? As it turns out, you are right. I was considering it as I have also heard it is a good program. I stopped considering DSON because of the accreditation issue. Thankfully, I was accepted into another program anyway. I do hope that DSON is a good program as I will someday be a new nurse grad and will undoubtly be working with DSON grads.

I know bfrdncr41 has said 50 times before that DSON is working on NLN accreditation, but the fact is that they are not accredited. They have been "working on" NLN accreditation for several years. You only have to read old postings on this site to see that. When the big "DSON is nationally accredited" news came out last fall, it was disappointing to find out it was with ACCST and not NLN or CCNE. On top of that, if the NLN's website is accurate, DSON does not even have candidate status yet. In my opinion, DSON is not going to be NLN accredited anytime in the near future despite what the salespeople, I mean, admissions counselors tell you. I may very well be wrong, but I wasn't willing to bet 36 g's and 2 years of my life to find out.

The reason that DSN is probably not on the candidate list is that the list was last updated Dec 15, 2008. The ACCST accreditation was received in January. Accreditation is a process, but I know for sure that DSN is jumping through the hoops. I know this because of all the extra evaluations we have to do and there are always new documents that we must submit because of accreditation. I am not worried, but I guess time will tell!

Don't get your panties in a twist for goodness sakes. Why are you so vested in what they are doing as a school if you aren't going there or don't plan on ever going there? I am just curious. The fact is accreditation is a process and it doesn't happen overnight. And no, they have not been working on NLN accreditation for several years, they just started as soon as ACCST accreditation was obtained in October. Get your facts straight before you talk about something you don't know anything about. I know for a fact several weeks ago our adminstrators were out of town meeting with the NLN and the NLN has come to see our school.

Apparently you feel the need to put a school down regardless of knowing nothing about it. Good luck in your program, hopefully you get what you want out of it.

And your opinion means absolutely nothing to me, so I'm glad you felt the need to "express" it.

My apologies for offending you. Now, please quit camping out here and replying within minutes after I post my evil lies and mistruths. I know you have studying to do.

By the way, I wear boxers, not panties.

wow a cat fight---just what we need more of in nursing!!!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like they are making progress. I hope you didn't think I was bad mouthing your school...that wasn't my intent. Like I said, I was seriously considering going there myself. I was adding my two cents to this thread based on my experience with them over the past few years. Best of luck to you.

Sorry if I offended anyone, it just isn't cool when people who don't know what they are talking about try to play it off like they do. I've gotten tired of trying to defend my school to people like that, but apparently it will follow me through until the NLN status is obtained.

and I find it funny that he needs to flatter himself by thinking I'm "stalking" him and his posts.

You didn't offend me at all. Mainly because I don't let petty stuff get to me the way you did. But you do need to cool it a bit. Remember it isn't "your" school. And besides get used to opinions that are different than yours. Cut the other poster some slack...

And he doesn't need to cool it? hmm interesting....

and yes, it is my school.

WOW I mean really... WOW. You own the school? Yes, cut the other poster some slack. You are the one with your knickers in a twist again with me....

where did I say I owned the school? I attend there so thus it is my school and I am going to defend it. I was not the person who started any of the negative postings. Saying that DSN's admissions counselors are salespeople and we won't be obtaining NLN status anytime soon is, in my opinion, putting the school down. He can feel the way he wants, I can feel the way I want. I don't think it is necessary to put other schools down. I don't go into threads about CU, Regis, Concorde, Metro, PPCC, Platt, etc and tell people what I think about their programs, b/c I don't attend there. I've said my piece, just don't want people thinking it is a horrible program b/c of people's random opinions.

Why are you so defensive? My original post was two sentences, replying to someone who asked for information about DSON. The accreditation issue came up in the thread, and I threw in some FACTUAL information about accreditation that someone might find helpful. To many people, that issue is meaningless, but to some it is may be very important. When all is said and done, I may not ever go to grad school and it may turn out to be a meaningless issue to me.

I never said DSON was horrible. I even said I had considered going there. Again, from everything I have heard it is a great program.

I only posted again and elaborated further when I was told I had no idea what I was talking about. Well, did it ever occur to you that maybe since I had considered going there I did some checking into things? My opinions are not random. Also, my wife proceeded me in nursing school and I know that 4 years ago they were working on NLN accreditation when we inquired back then. If you don't believe that, then I guess if I were you I would ask why they haven't been pursuing accreditation. On my post when I said they wouldn't be accredited anytime soon, I proceeded that with "in my opinion" and followed it with "I may very well be wrong". According to someone else who replied to that who now attends there, it sounds like they are working on it.

And then you get upset that I imply that DSON has salespeople on staff? I know my impression of the person we talked to 4 years ago was that they were trying to sell us something. And as a for profit school, they should have salespeople working for them. Nothing wrong with that. I myself have been a salesperson in the past. You just need to keep things in perspective and realize the ALL of the motivations of the person giving you information and do some independent research.

My "stalking" post was an effort to lighten the mood and make friends. I guess it didn't come across that way. For that, I apologize.

gj chriso---stop apologizing---your opinion and information is valid. It seems some students have a lot more to learn; no matter which school they attend.
