There are tons of really cool looking scrub caps out there: tie dye, sports teams, shamrocks, etc. Will most ORs let you wear those, or do they generally insist on disposables for sterility purposes? Naturally, I'll ask my own OR when I start in June, but I thought I'd see what people here think.

I just interviewed for an OR nurse summer extern program and one of the ladies did have one of the 'cool scrub caps' on. I guess it depends on hospital protocol.
(I just love those....but then again, I also loved getting to put on the disposible cap when observing in a C/S case.)

Where I work, you can wear the scrub caps all you want, but you have to wear a disposable over them while in the department. I'm not sure if this is common everywhere though. They also help keep your hair from breaking under those shotty disposables.

Doesn't appear to be a policy where I work. We all wear what we want as long as your hair is covered

We're allowed to wear them but are required, according to AORN recommendations, to wash them after each use. Now me, I'm thinking that would come as natural as any other article of clothing hehe

We can only wear them when covered with the disposable, but most of us have our own scrub jackets and can wear those. We supposedly are getting hospital issued.... we'll see. We're still waiting for computer charting, LOL... BUT, we have upgraded to a NEW & IMPROVED OR record, that's like 22 pages long. Good times, there!
I take my scrub jackets to the laundry mat & get a poo poo from TPTB, but a filthy cover jacket that hasn't been laundered in months is OK to wear??? Still don't understand that one.

Why can't you take them to the laundry mat?
