Congratulations on your acceptance. I recently completed my first year at Thomas Nelson's nursing program. Get ready for a tough, yet insightful time.
What is the schedule like the first semester?? How should I prepare before starting??
Hello Tiffany20,
Great questions thus far? You sound just as anxious as I was.
First off, schedules may vary from year to year but if they do the same thing as last fall my schedule was like this.
NUR 100- Online *first 8 weeks only*
NUR 117- 12:00-2:00pm (Mon) *second eight weeks*
NUR 104- 8:00-10:50am (Mon/Wed)
NUR 105- 8:00-2:00pm (Thur)
NUR 135- 12:00-2:00pm (Wed)
As far as what you can get started on, to have a jump start on everyone else at orientation, I would make sure all your immunizations are up to date.
The ones TNCC Nursing Program requires are:(I went to the Hampton Health Dept. and got many of these for free or no more than $5.00)
Hepatitis B (3 shots or you can sign a waiver)
MMR
tDap
Varicella (having chicken pox previously will not count as immunized)
Flu
Tuberculosis/PPD
I hope this helps some. See you at orientation as I will be speaking there!!
Yes I am a little anxious. I'm not so sure what to expect from the program, so I am trying to prepare much as possible before hand. Thanks for all your information.

Hi Bandzero and Tiffany20,
Thanks for posting the first year curriculum info, Bandzero! That's very helpful.
Tiffany20 - I too was accepted for Fall 2014. I'm hoping to be able to attend, but I'm a military spouse and we're awaiting news about whether my husband will be able to extend our assignment here. Fingers crossed!
I had a very easy time applying to the program, but I'd been at TNCC for two or three semesters prior, and my professors were all great and willing to give recommendations. For the TEAS, I got a 95% national and 96% program ranking, if that helps. I've had a great experience at TNCC so far; I've been really lucky with my professors in my pre-nursing courses, I feel like they've prepared me very well for the program.
Looking forward to Orientation later this month! Maybe we can meet up there.
Stephanie
Yay!! Congratulations!! I am a military spouse as well. Hopefully we won't PCS anytime soon. Can't wait to meet you there.

Hello!
Tiffany, I just finished my first semester and our schedule was:
NUR 104 (16 weeks) Mon/Wed 9-11:50am
First 8 weeks NUR 100 Monday 1-2:50pm
Second 8 weeks NUR 117 Monday 1-2:50pm
NUR 135 (16 weeks) Wednesday 1-2:50pm
NUR 105 (lab/clinical) was split into two groups, Tuesday 8am-2pm and Thursday 8am-2pm
We only had three clinical days, the rest was spent in the lab.
I'd love to answer any other questions! I really enjoyed myself this semester and all of my professors were amazing. The first semester definitely wasn't as bad as I expected it to be! People sort of built it up to be more difficult than it actually was...in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, it had challenging moments - but I was still able to squeeze in visits to family in northern virginia, a surgery, and plenty of quality time with friends and family and pass with four A's and a B!
Hi Sapoland,
Thanks for your information. Yes I am hearing lots of stories of how hard the program is. Makes me a little nervous and non confident. So is there anything I should do in order to prepare for the information?? How often did you have to study??
I can't say for sure how the Hampton courses are since I go to the Williamsburg campus but I had two professors that taught there for lab and drug dosage and I loved them both! The material was challenging at times but definitely not impossible to understand. I studied often but not for hours at a time...usually an hour here and there and took notes with me if I was riding in a car for a length of time, or sitting in doctors offices. I reviewed notes daily and I'd explain difficult concepts to my boyfriend to help ME understand and remember better...that helped a lot for me. I'm sure the 2nd semester will be much more difficult since the classes are only 5 weeks but I'll have to learn better time management...didn't have too big of an issue with that this semester LOL.
When I say two professors that taught there, I mean they were primarily hampton campus teachers, but taught at our campus for a class or two.
