Hi.

I have been accepted into the TJU FACT program that begins in May but the orientation isn't until a week before classes begin and I would like to get a better idea of the scheduling. I know it's 5 days a week but does anyone have some more specific info? i have to arrange for child care and transportation and a general idea of the class/clinical hours would be helpful.

also...anyone else out there starting the program with me in May?

I makes me feel sick that they don't tell you anything beforehand. I will work on it. I noticed that they had some Saturdays available. I am quite far from Phily and it is important for me.

Should I be concerned if I haven't heard anything from Niki? I emailed her earlier this week and still haven't heard anything except what you guys have posted here. I really want to get an idea of how much money we need to spend on supplies and what is required so I can start collecting some of that stuff now, while I have time to shop around. Has anyone seen a list or anything?

Yeah, I don't know why they don't have the info about the BLS requirement somewhere on the nursing school website, in giant bold letters. But one of the other schools I got accepted to last year didn't have the info, either. I think they just expect us to know that!

You can take your BLS course anywhere that is convenient for you; it doesn't have to be at Jeff. As long as it's the American Heart Association course and as long as they give you a certification card (good for 2 years) to bring with you. Call your local hospitals and see if they offer BLS for Healthcare providers. Make sure it's not the lifesaving course for laypeople. You should be fine.

No, I haven't seen a list, and I'm betting they haven't put one together yet. You can always log onto your Pulse account, and post a message on the student message board that's there. They don't get a whole lot of messages, but a current student might see it and answer you.

I noticed in that list of requirements, where you directed me yesterday that besides of BSL certificate, we have to submit our health card for clinicals. Does it mean that they have to issue us our health cards once we finish our health requirements.

Do you know anything about it?

I have no idea what that mysterious health card is. LOL! I'm betting it's something we get from Jeff once we submit all our health info. Then again, it could be evidence of health insurance?? I am clueless. I wouldn't stress too much about that right now. Just get your physical and immunizations, plus your BLS course, and you should be fine.

I'm strongly considering Jeff, but have some concerns. Since the list of clinical sites is pretty diverse, do you need a car to participate in this program? I'd planned on moving into Center City (NYC now) and don't want to drive, deal with finding parking in Philly or paying Philly's exhorbitant insurance rates. I'd love to work at Bryn Mawr Hosp, but at least I could get there by the R5 if necessary. I wouldn't want to work all the way out in Delaware County, though. Will they force you to do a clinical where it's next to impossible to get to?

kdrose, I don't know the answer to your question, since I am not in the program yet. Hopefully, someone in the program will answer your question soon. Or you could call/email Niki and ask her. I'm betting that people carpool or something along those lines. But I don't know for sure.

So im sure we all got the email this morning saying the class was full

My question is about the PDA requirement..I actually just got a blackberry figuring this would work with whatever PDA software Jeff wanted us to use..

Now on nursing central it says the software does support blackberry:

Very confused and dont want to have to buy another pda type gadget!!

Any current students have any details??

I'm hoping a current student will answer that question, too. Although I am planning on buying a Palm just because she said the Palm is what Jefferson's IT department supports.

How is everyone planning on paying for their FACT tuition? I was relying on the program that Jefferson used to have where they paid tuition and you owed them 2 years of service to repay the debt. I can get a student loan for some of it but don't know anything about securing additional scholarships. I'm a single mom in my 30s...help!

Don't they have that scholarship any longer? I was considering that as an option as well. I'll pay as much as I can out of pocket, but the rest will be loans.

Good luck! I don't have kids to worry about, so my situation isn't as dire as yours. I would suggest putting aside as much as you can for living expenses and then take out loans for the rest. The program isn't so expensive that you can't pay them off.
