Thomas Jefferson FACT Program

Published

Hi.

I have been accepted into the TJU FACT program that begins in May but the orientation isn't until a week before classes begin and I would like to get a better idea of the scheduling. I know it's 5 days a week but does anyone have some more specific info? i have to arrange for child care and transportation and a general idea of the class/clinical hours would be helpful.

also...anyone else out there starting the program with me in May?

I plan on attending the Welcome Day!

Also has anyone finished their medical/immunization? I am just starting (procrastination), did you just bring it the incoming students requirements to your family physician?

Thanks for any help!!

You have to bring all medical forms and immunization records to your Family Physician, they will perform physical exam and check your immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubela and Hepatitis B. If you have enough immunity, you are fine, if not, you would have to do some vaccinations. If you never been vaccinated against Hep B, you can sign declination form to put it off for some time, because it takes about 6 months to complete those series.

Also, they require Tdap (pertussis) not just a TD (tetorifice, diphteria).

A good news that you can fax them all your information after you are done instead of mailing it.

I hope, it will help!

I'm undecided about the reception. I went last year, but that was when I was planning to do the APW program. It would be nice to meet some fellow FACTers beforehand. Any other old coots out there? LOL!

Hi Atomic Woman,

to be honest, me either.

I was there for Financial Aid workshop, it was pretty sad to know that we are only eligible for 12.5 thousands $

and the rest it would be only private loans. I was pretty tired by the end.

I am still contemplating about the reception, but the most likely I will come for orientation on the 19th of May.

I am eager to see all FACters too, but for me it is quite a distance to go there.

Yeah, I went to the financial aid workshop last year and basically wasted a Saturday. I didn't learn anything I didn't know already. I also know not to expect any "aid", just loans. Apparently, you have to be living in a cardboard box to get any grants. LOL!

Orientation on the 19th of May is mandatory -- did you get an email from Nikki about that?

Did you print out all the forms here?

The people the office of student health are very helpful and nice. You'll find their phone number on the cover letter you can download at that web address.

Maybe we ANers should wear a special tag when/if we attend the New Students Reception. :)

Yeah, that's true, you have to be very poor in order to get any grants.

It makes it difficult, especially, because, we already have our first Bachelor's degree.

I am coming for Orientation for sure! I meant that I wasn't sure about reception.

Once, we start school, I will stay in New Jersey at my relatives house and take train every day. It is quite close, West Mount station, if I am not wrong.

I am excited and worried at the same time!

I can not wait.....

Hi All , I am starting to get very excite to start school. I, too, am unsure that I will be able to attend the accepted students day since I am currently in Seattle. I started at Facebook group just so we could get to know each other before we all gather in Philly. If anyone is interested just search for Jefferson FACT. It would be fun to put names with faces. :nurse: I am excited to meet all of you. -Emily

Westmont, but West Mount is close enough. :) Westmont station is very close to Philly. Your train ride will be 15 to 20 minutes, and the train will let you off at 9th, 10th and Locust Streets. When you come out of the train station, Jefferson is right in front of you! I will probably take the train on classroom days, too, just to save on parking fees.

I will be taking the train as well from lindenwold, nj (sp?)

Pianitra..I couldn't find the facebook group idk what I'm doing wrong?

And does anyone know how many people are in our fact class? I know I heard once but really cant remember!

Yes, exactly, AtomicWoman, Westmont! I got confused with new titles.

I took it a couple of times, just to check, the station is right near the campus and, probably, we will get monthly pass with student discount, so it can really help to save a little money for gas and parking and also you don't have to worry about traffic and so on.

I don't know what is up with facebook, sometimes I have a hard time finding things on there as well. Here is the link to the site. I hope this works for you. Emily http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=58222830881&ref=mf

As far as I know, it's in the 100-to-120 student range for the FACT program alone.

Atomic Woman, I must say that reading your posts have been a huge help while I've been trying to get things ready. Im a college senior, so as I get ready to graduate I am trying to juggle my last semester of undergrad with trying to get all of the necessary "stuff" into Jefferson. I did have a couple questions for you...

1. Is there a separate financial aid application? Am I supposed to be doing more than filling out my FAFSA? I did that, as I have done now for many years and was wondering if there was more for me to do.

2. Is anyone going to live in Jefferson housing? Im from New Hampshire, but am completing my undergrad in NJ- I have been a resident assistant at my current school for years and am interviewing for a similar position at Jefferson, but am unsure of how many applicants there are. The housing fees on the Jefferson website are a convoluted mess and I was wondering if anyone had any insight into that. I was told I was "guaranteed" housing, but I am unsure of what that means (a box?)

3. Do I need my car since Ill be living in Philly? My car is not the most reliable piece of machinery ever, and I was wondering if I should unload my car and look into a low-cost lease so I would have something reliable to drive. I'd rather just go without, but don't want to find myself having placements in NJ and no way to get there.

4. I noticed that the FACT students can complete their MSN in one additional calendar year, is that really plausible with working? It doesn't look like it would be too overwhelming on paper, I just was wondering if people really do complete the program as advertised. My plan was to do the adult nurse practitioner option, is it possible to work and get the clinical time needed for that program completed?

Is anyone going to see the facility or anything before they start? The website is advertising a JCHP accepted students open house event on March 14th, and I thought that it might be a good idea to check it out. Anyone going? Might be nice to meet a future classmate or two!
