9/4 This week in PreNursing I learned....

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

We are all pursuing this long journey to achieve our ultimate goal of getting into nursing school. I wanted to start a thread where all of us prenursing students can.....

1. Get and give each other advice.

2. Encourage one another through these long semesters.

3. Provide some comic relief from our crazy lives.

4. Share what we learn every week.

5. Just be able to converse with others who are going through the same exact things.

So share away!

P.S I realize that there is a similar thread going on in the general nursing section, but I wanted to start one up with my fellow prenursing students. :nurse:

However, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!

This week I have learned...

-That A&P II is going to be very interesting. We are going through the Endocrine System and I feel like I know a lot of this already.....thanks to type 2 diabetes and its common occurrence in my family.

-I will also be a shut in all weekend because I have 2 exams on Tuesday to study for :notworthy:

- Taking 3 courses this semester and working full time is not as bad as I thought it would be....but my husband is going to be neglected this semester. Sorry Babe :writing:

- I am glad I discovered AN! It's loads of fun!

I feel you! This semester I take the TEAS in a week, I am working 32 hours a week (recently cut my hours from 40 to 32), and I am taking my last 3 pre-req's (A&P 2, Stat, and Micro)..I feel like I am already going crazy and the semester just started for me...

So my exams went better than I expected.

My A&P II exam was surprisingly easy, but I attribute that to the fact that I studied, studied, studied! I learned the endocrine system inside and out. I am finding that I actually really enjoy the way the course is set up. Initially I was nervous about taking a science class as a hybrid (online lecture + on campus lab) but I find that it is actually really great for the way I learn.

I was more nervous about taking my first PSY 101 exam because I was barley able to even open the book to study since I was dedicating most of my study time to A&P. But I got a B+ which I am very satisfied with. I have been trying to put together a study schedule so that I can dedicate enough time to each of my courses.

Specializes in Surgical Nursing.

I just started my semester last week. I'm pulling a Chemistry class/lab and a computer class (prereq for nursing, and I could have tested out I think but I wanted an easy class to boost my overall GPA). So far it isn't as bad as I thought, but then again no exams yet so I may be singing a different tune when that time rolls around. So far I've been reading my chapters, and taking notes/filling out note cards so I have some ready made flash cards for studying. I also do a lot of practice problems during my study so I keep up on my math skills. I'm so so at Math, I've always made a passing grade but anything above algebra level is like "pull numbers out of the sky" math. Ugh, I hope nursing doesn't require pre-calc because I am not cut out for that. Luckily my school took my statistics course I took in college over ten years ago so I don't need to take a math test because I am seriously rusty.

Specializes in Telemetry.

I'm in the same awkward middle phase with jerseygirl. Waiting to hear if I'm in a program. But while I'm waiting, I'm re-taking APII with a great professor to make sure I get a good foundation. I'm setting up study habits that I like and that's good. In the mean time I learned it's important to get everything squared away before nursing school, so organization has been my life ~

Specializes in Ambulatory Care, Clinical Care Coordination, LTC.

I feel you! I will be starting A&PII and intro to pharmacy soon. I'm going to miss my fiance... XD

Specializes in Geriatrics.

Hey guys! Thanks for starting this thread. I am in my last semester of prereqs and am taking Physiology, Communication Studies (speech), and an online pharmacology class while working 33 hours a week. I will be taking the TEAS during the winter and start applying to Nursing schools right after. Wishing everyone good luck! í ½í¸Š

In my first semester of pre reqs right now and I'm learning flashcards work great. I also should've been reviewing my notes everyday after class and reading the chapters beforehand... I focused all my attention on getting great grades on the quizzes (which was successful!) but I forgot the exams cover so much more than just this. Whoops. The chapter outlines my anatomy & physiology teacher gave us are proving to be really helpful though.
