Oct 12, 201015 yr There are numerous posts about people calling themselves nurses, when they are not. This is on the side of my facebook right nowBE A NURSE IN 12 MONTHS100's of schools are seeking nurses for their medical assistant programs. In 12 months you can be working as a full time nurse.
Oct 12, 201015 yr I agree, the way such programs are advertised is absolutely part of the problem. Who wants to spend 2-4 years in nursing school when you can become a "nurse" in 12 months!! I personally think most MA's would be wiser to spend their time and money perusing an LPN program. With an LPN there is at least room for growth.
Oct 12, 201015 yr I just saw that same ad on a very popular social networking site and literally LOL'd! Then I got a bit mad and offended b/c I'm spending the next 30 months (2 1/2 years) of my life in nursing school just to earn my BSN. Just another example of marketing at it's "finest". Sure it sounds fine and fancy when a watch is called a "timepiece" or eyeglasses are called "eyewear". However, the terms "MA" and "nurse" aren't even synonymous! It's an enormous stretch to even suggest it.
Oct 12, 201015 yr Experts I like the local ads that say you can finish in eight months and don't necessarily need a high school diploma.
Oct 13, 201015 yr This type of advertising should be reported to your state board of nursing. Per the American Nurses Association (ANA) website the title of "nurse" is protected and, primarily for public safety reasons, there are legal repercussions for those who use the title inappropriately.
