i'm sorry i just had to vent. i've been literally working on this 27 page ( oh i wish i was exaggerating) careplan since 9 oclock this morning. this is my careplan for ob and its taking forever to get done. well i'm almost done so i can kind of see the light. i have two exams coming up, a presentation to work on, and another paper to write and its so hard to focus on those things when i'm stuck on a care plan. :banghead: well i'm almost done so i mine as well get off line and keep on truckin'. :typing. well thanks for letting me vent.

haha

dude what are you gonna do when you have crappy administration that think its ok to assign 14 patients plus a vent since theyre "short" staffed

What am I gonna do ? Ima do the best that I can and work to the competency to the best of my ability and act as a prudent nurse would. Hey it comes with the territory. I'm determined to become a nurse and if I had to write a 27 page care q week to get through nursing school I would. do it. No one ever said school or nursing would be easy but its my dream, and its what I desire to do. ! :nurse:

Our Assessment takes about 2 pages, we have to do one chronic and one acute patho, expected tests and diagnostics for each, prognosis for each, history, all labs, unmet Maslow needs in detail, physiologic NANDA, and a psychosocial NANDA with at least 4 interventions with rationales each, gerontological considerations and all meds incl. PRN meds. yep, ours are about 20-25 pages, plus they have to be in APA format and have cited sources.

Well that's not what I'd call a 'care plan'. That sounds like what we turn in as our weekly clinical ppwk. The actual care plan part of that is 1 page, possibly 2 at most.

At my cc, its part of the "care plan" We don't have to turn in weekly clinical ppwk. The only ppwk we have is when we are documenting something and thats usually done in the pts. record.

Huh, fancy that. Guess it shows all the differences at different programs!

Well I guess I should of clarified. Its for the mother/baby couplet. The careplan had to include demographic data, prenatal data, a medication chart, lab data for both mother and baby, assessments, and etc. I still think its alot though.

Sounds like the data clusters we do for med surg but ours is not a really a care plan, we do attach a careplan to them but we only do 2 cluster per quarter for each rotation. We do the care plans all the time though.

We interpret labs like you do & have to explain why some are of the normal range, we also do extensive medication card w/action, nursing implications & why is the pt on this? Its basically like rewriting an entire chart minus the progress notes.

Our mother-baby couplet data clusters was much shorter then yours or our med surg one. The whole thing isn't even 5 pages long, we don't concentrate on their labs unless it's a + Coombs test or something like that. Even then it still wasn't that long. Our OB teachers at the sites did not want to read about Hep B, Vitamin K, or ethryomycin for the babies because they all get it, once in a blue moon someone says no to the Hep B. Now for moms if she was on Valtrex for a current herpes outbreak or a + Group B strep we do put down the plan of treatment for those things.

School will be over one day right? hahaha

I feel your pain though
