This made my (nursing) year....maybe my whole year! :)

I am having a bad month on the personal side (I am going to post about that, too, lucky you guys) but on a particularly bad day, I got a message that I had a delivery at the nurses' station. Had no idea what on earth that could have been....

I got a beautiful bouquet of flowers, from the husband of a patient I had taken care of the week before, to say thank you for everything I did for her/them. The nurse that had made the follow up phone call to them said he just went on and on about how happy they were with how I treated them, both personally and clinically. He told her he wanted to send the flowers, and she said that the recognition was enough (she'd let me know what he said) and that it wasn't necessary, but I guess he decided to anyway. It just happened to work out well that it was on a day that I needed it more than usual.

Of course, just hearing a heartfelt thanks makes the job worthwhile in the stressful times, but this really touched me. Makes it SO much easier to punch that clock every day. :)

WOW!Keep up the good work!!!!

Aww! What a nice surprise. It's good to feel appreciated, and you should think that for every patient who takes time to thank you like this, there are others who feel the same way but didn't think to say so.

Oh, what a nice thing to say.......I never thought of that. I hear thank you's, and have patients tell me they're happy that I'm coming back the next day (or unhappy if I have the next day off :p), but you raise a good point....some don't say anything.

That's something that EVERYONE should keep in mind; thank you for making the point.

How nice of them to think of you. It reminds us our

care and interventions are appreciated and most times

we are so busy we don't notice our patients appreciation.

Flowers were a great way to get your attention!

Keep up the great work !

Great JOB!!!!!!!!! Good for you. People do notice what you do and when you get a card or flowers or some small token of appreciation it really helps. We don't get enough of that, either from the patients or from our peers.

Through the years I have received some very nice gifts from patients or their families but I have to say the one thing that meant the most to me was this little lady that we all took care of each time she came to our ED. She had horrible cardiac problems and had only one vein in the AC of her right arm. Me or my friend Leslie were the only people who could get her IV. And no matter how sick she was, she was always a lovely woman to be around. Her poor husband had renal failure and they were both so sick. They had no car and no money. But I will never forget that one Thanksgiving she knew that Leslie and I were working and she took three buses across town to bring us two home made sweet potato pies. I will never forget her.
