THIRD NCLEX ATTEMPT! Study/preparation suggestions?

Published

Hello everyone,

I just received my ATT and chose my test date for December giving me exactly 2 months to prepare. This will be my 3rd time taking the exam. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say, I AM FREAKING OUT! I graduated in 2012 so it's been a while. The last two times I took my exam i did not feel prepared or focused due to personal issues, but had to try. It has been a struggle to say the least. Being a nurse is all i have ever wanted and though I have had some difficulties to reach my goal, I know this is just another hurdle I will overcome to become a great nurse.

I quit my job to focus solely on preparing for the NCLEX. If any of you have any suggestions on study material, study tips, strategies, or simply any advice on how to study effectively, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have the Kaplan RN Course Book, Kaplan NCLEX-RN Strategies, Practice, and Review; and the Saunders Comprehensive Review. For questions I have Saunders CD and the Pearson Cram.

Thank you and good luck to us all!

There is a facebook group called Nurses that I highly recommend. It's operated by Joan Palmari. If you google her you will find it. Lots of good things going on there.

I like the NCSBN review. It helped me a lot. The questions are straight forward and in my opinion kinda resembles the actual NCLEX type of questions. I passed at 75 questions. Good luck:)!

I just sat for my first NCLEX. No results yet but I felt well prepared by the HURST Review. If you really study all their content you will be prepared. It's $350 and worth it.

hey, read the content from saunders and then answer questions from the system u have read... dont skip any subject area... go thru pharmacology form each area... i used PDA (best for prioritization), saunders and hurst for content, kaplan question trainers and 35 page content... try to finish 1 week before ur exam date and revise... cool urself the day of the exam.... be prepared to answer all 265...ABOVE ALL, PRAY,PRAY,PRAY... U will be alright... my best wishes for ur success...

PDA by Lacharity was the king of all NCLEX prep for me.. these are majority of the types of questions I saw on the NCLEX in Aug '14. Make sure to read ALL OF YOUR ANSWERS/RATIONALES even if you got them CORRECT!! you must understand WHY you are getting questions right or wrong especially since most of the times they might be lucky guesses :-)

I worked 3 to 11pm...my schedule for studying was as follows:

i would get up by 7:30 the latest and a quick breakfast then i would do 100 question on saunders just on Fundamentals, then i would go over the no matter if i got 98% or more. then I would have my breakfast around 10:00 am and then i would read content until 12 to 12:30 then lunch and then I would do 75 questions on prepU exam mode and go over it before going to work. While i work i would take my index cards of pharma and maternity and i would go over them my breaks or down-time.

I took 2 weeks off before my nclex and I did 100 questions saunders fundamentals by 10 am then 100 med surg [cardio, resp, neuro, musco, endocrine, oncology, renal, and gastro only]by 12 pm.

Then I read content or go over my index cards pharmacology, peds and maternity. at 6 pm I would do 100 questions on maternity, psych, and peds. By 8 pm I would do 75 questions exam mode prepu and reach level 8; I am usually done by 10 or 1030 pm...and before going to bed i would watch a video from this lady's site on youtube and do the question of the day in her instagram.

I found her link 3 weeks before my nclex and it was helpful...I believe she explains things much better than mike linares sorry bro!

You have two months use it wisely!

btw: I used Saunders 6ed. and I used it during med-surg, maternity, peds, and psysch. so I was pretty familiar with the questions by this time but when you get those select all that apply, believe you me you will not be that scare. I believe you have to do repetition no understand something real well.

As far as the prepU I reached level 8 on content and then I did the nclex style questions and very helpful i must say!

My experience with Nclex went as follows:

I took my nclex and I got 25 to 30 select all that apply questions and i was not afraid and i kept going, I reached 75 and click on next bottom and I got 76 question...I was upset inside but happy I was still doing good. I did not check how many questions I did i just read each question twice and asked myself, do i understand the topic and then I move to the answers. I hit my 2 hour break and I kept going no breaks [i was ready to go 6 hours with no break] I hit the blue screen and I did the survey and it was close to 5 pm.

get in a mode of answering questions and reading content that is your weakest!

I test in 4 weeks . I'm half way through Saunders . I have the NCLEX mastery app and the hurst review . I wanna buy the lacharity book also . Is that too much ? I don't wanna over do it . I really wish I could just stick with one resource but maybe that's not enough . Any advice ?

I was working full time as an ER Technician when I prepared for my NCLEX and I used Kaplan Ondemand, La Charity and the 35 page review guide from AN. You can do it too! God bless.
