Thinking of relocating to Las Vegas--please help

Published

Ok, so I am thinking of moving to Vegas soon. I am an RN with a BSN 1 year experience in Med/Surg/stepdown/hospice. I currently live in NY and work in a city hospital. Any suggestions for what hospitals have good reputations from a nursing standpoint? What is the average salary for an RN? Any experiences anyone would like to share would be greatly appreciated. I just want to do my homework before I pick up and go. I have heard some good things about Sunrise, St Rose etc... Anyway thanks in advance! :0) ~Ria

I moved to LV in March of 2007 (I am an lPN) I had a job within 2 weeks of moving here. Those two hospitals are good. (from what I have heard).

I work in home health care myself.

there are plenty of jobs out here if you look and put forth the effort to find a job.

I recommend using monster.com or a couple of other places where u can put your resume online. I have gotten a lot of contacts that way with places looking for nurses.

Good luck and hope this helps.

I guess it is all about who you talk to. I have heard to stick with the Valley health system. That does not include sunrise hospital. St. Rose I have heard is nice and I have seen a lot of jobs advertised for them. I am in the process of applying thru an angency and working Per Diem. If I like the hospital, I will aply to work full time.

i too am thinking of going to las vegas. the agency i'm looking at says med surge will pay 36 an hour + housing. ... that's for 3 12 hour shifts... i'm pretty well used to working 70+ hours/wk, and i'm wondering if i'll be able to find addional prn hours and what that will pay.

i'm a med surge nurse, no icu/cardiac training, and no desire to get any. just looking to work a lot of med surge.

any info appreciated.

Hi RiaRN-I too am moving to Las Vegas in June-2008-wondering if you have had any success from any of your contacts etc. I have talked to an agency that will work with me but I am a little nervous about that since I have never done that before-I am experienced on Med/Surg for a number of years-it would be nice if you would send me any info you have received since I too would like to do the homework prior to moving. Thanks so much

Try the Nevada Department of Corrections. Good pay and good benefits. Best job I ever had been doing it close to 5 years now.
