Thinking of heading to U.S....any suggestions?

Nurses General Nursing

Hi there!

I'm a Canadian 3rd year nursing student, still exploring my options. One of those options, of course, is relocating to work in the U.S. I've been thinking maybe North Carolina or Virginia.....anybody have any feedback on that? Both seem like they would be beautiful places to live, and i would love to hear from US or Canadian residents. And, to fellow Canadians who have made the move, one of my major questions is: how easy is it to relocate, does anyone know? If i am married (to another Canadian), will my spouse be able to move down and work immediately as well?

Whew! I'm full of questions.....(among other things....:chuckle )

Thanks for your time!

my hospital, sponsors canadian nurses, we have many of them. My best buddies are canadian, but hey, I'm from buffalo.

If you wish to speak with some of them, PM me. I'll ask their permission to forward their e-mail address to you.

to speak to our nurse recruiter, call 910-609-4000, ask for Diane DeBoer

sorry, forgot to answer, once sponsored and you obtain your NC license, there is a relocation bonus paid to you. Moving and working for you is easy. Your spouse working is another matter. Finding a sponsor for a work visa depends on how great the need is for that profession. Call immigration or visit their web site.

If he's a nurse too it will be super easy, if not it's a matter of paperwork and time

good luck

Just make sure you go and see the hospital before you accept work there. Take it from someone who knows!

Thanks, Fergus.......:)

I have heard that before, and a couple of horror stories to go along with it......I'll be sure to check out anything before I make the big step!

Glad to hear it frosteefire! I moved to the US as a new grad and the first hospital I went to was more like a sweat shop! I got out REAL fast and found a great place. I am planning on going back to the US in a few months and the biggest difference between Canada and the US is the range of hospital quality. They have some of the best facilities in the entire world, and some places I wouldn't let my dog be treated in!
