Knicked a pts picc line. Started to.bleed applied pressure n pressure dressing. Sent pt to er for replacement. Pt drove self against my advice. checked bavk wit pt later that day n pt stated they put new picc n he was fine. Fam complained I was suspended n they r investigating. Sld I b concencered bout bon?

My only concern is a family.member who wasnt present said some things that didnt happen. So thats my big convern now. Have no idea what the patient said except when I called him later that day and he told me it didnt bleed anymore on the way there and his picc line worked great

oh, esme, i did that too. i said a bad word to myself, yanked a 18ga needle off the room's supply cart, cut it off to about 1" long with my 8" bandage scissors (those suckers would probably cut sheet steel), stuck the stub in the inflation channel, put a stopcock on the other end, and blew it up. held fine until the guys came out of the or in the afternoon, but i was really embarrassed.:uhoh21:

They taught us in my nursing school "Never put your scissors near a PICC line!" Frankly, your home health agency was grossly negligent hiring a new grad that had never been trained in a hospital. You need your hospital experience for a reason.
