If you get a degree in something and then decide to change careers and get into something else, or if you decide to do something else with your degree is it ever a waste?
For a little while, I was really bummed out that I'm getting a 'useless' BA this June, when I know that all I want is to do nursing. I thought that maybe it was a waste for me to spend four years getting a degree that won't get me a job. But I thought about how much I learned in university, things about ideas and the world in general, and I think I'm a better person for it. I'm a very practical person, but I was forced to be theoretical and really explore ideas - especially socio-political ones. In the future, I think it will make me a stronger nurse! So no, education is NEVER a waste of time, as long as you know how to make your learning of value to you.
Im going through that thought process now as I decide whether or not to go for my BSN. Im not sure about other areas but the pay rate for an RN & BSN are the same or $1-2 difference. That's alot of debt and time to incur for that amount. Everyone is flocking to the nursing field because they feel you will always have a job but with the flock thats not so. I know people who have their master's and are still floor nurses
