the thread about the nurse calling out because of herpes made me think about some of the reasons people i've worked with have called out sick. some ridiculous, some shocking, some understandable . . .
so what's the strangest, funniest or most bizarre reason someone you know of has called out?
there was my friend who for some reason thought trying a totally new hairdo before work on a monday morning was a reasonable thing to do. she got her hair done, hated it, and to my amazement called in sick and gave the real reason! she called in sick for a bad hair day!
or the male nurse who called in sick because he'd been out drinking the night before, went home with a woman he'd just met and couldn't find his car. he actually called in and said he wouldn't be to work because he couldn't find his car. (i think i would have mentioned nausea or a headache!)
and then there was the man who called in sick because (and i quote) "i can't come in to work, i just can't! i so ashamed of myself, i'm such a ****! i just slept with my best friend's husband!" the woman who thought she was his best friend happened to be working that night!
i called in sick once because i'd just caught my then-husband in bed with the next door neighbor. (i said i had the flu!)
Years ago I called out to the off-shift supervisor when I found my basement full of smoke/fire (true). I was told "No way, its too late to call out now, I can't replace you this late". I started crying and mumbling "but the firemen are here, my kid and dog are in the car, the house has been condemned, etc". the supervisors response..........."OK, you can come in late, but no later than eleven"BTW, I had not called out in the two years prior! I did not go to work and they forgave me.
There is NO job like nursing!
gee...a flogging would not be nearly enough for this inappropriate behavior; maybe a tar and feathering are in order as well; forgive you???? heh...that sup should have gotten on his/her knees, apologized for being as dense as a London fog, kissed your feet, and voluntarily submitted to the flogging and public humiliation; some people's children, I tell you what:angryfire
I called out late one night the night (it only happened once) DS decided to "run away."I was frantic and finally found him lurking in a nearby parking lot. He came home without a fuss; apparently he forgot to bring food. :chuckle
:chuckle
A friend and I ran away once and made it about half a mile and realized that our bags were too heavy and went back. No one ever knew we were gone.
I called out of my job at walmart one time with Stomach flu or some such nonsense. Spent all day with my husband, hehehehe. But then got sick with the flu for real the next month and was miserable. Of course it happened on my three day weekend and not on my workdays.
I called out last month because I swore I was going into labor. I was contracting regularly every 8-10 minutes and had back pain, the whole nine yards except for membrane rupture. I called out at 0600 but I didn't have to be there until noon. Well by noon I was back to contracting every 30-40 minutes and by three had stopped altogether. Gotta love those Braxton-Hicks contractions.
Three times! There are perks to being an active campaign volunteer. The one I mentioned I just happened to run into him in the hall coming from the gym and shook his hand and talked to him for about 2 seconds. At a later event the campaign selected me to be a greater. There were ten of us who gathered in a hallway and as he walked through he stopped to talk to each of us for about 2 minutes. When they told us about it I thought it was some kind of photo-op and wondered why they didn't pick someone more attractive than me, lol. There were no cameras, though, so I guess it was just a nice gesture from the campaign.
I got to meet him again briefly at the end of the event when they gathered all of the event volunteers for pictures. He's a very, very nice person. :loveya:
I also met Michelle at a separate event. I think she's even more awesome than he is.
Wow. That's really great. I hope there will be a chance to do some volunteering in my area before November.

Twice I've called in for none sick reasons. The first was because the cable guy drilled through the main power supply to my house and the walls in my basement were "smoking". I had fire fighters, cable guys, electric company, etc... all roaming in and about my house. I called in and got the lecture, "we're really short..." I said, "Sorry, not leaving my house with all these people roaming in and out until the problem is solved."
Second time was because we had an infestation of bees that had apparently come from the attic - there were thousands upon thousands of them in the windows of my house, some had gotten in. Anywhooo, I had to call in to get this fixed too. Work wasn't very happy.
