The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Fall 2024 BSN

Published

Hey guys,

I haven't seen a thread made for this yet so I thought I'd start one! I know our deadline is coming up in less than 2 weeks; how far are yall on your applications? Best of luck to everyone applying!!

They should! You can email them to do an unofficial review of your transcript like I did a couple months ago. They counted my AP credit for some classes!

Thanks for the info! I called them since I've been having this issue with other schools I'm applying to (and one specific AP credit that I want to use but is not on my transcript), and they told me it won't affect my admissions decision, but if admitted then I need to make sure all of my AP scores are on my current transcript then send it to UTMB. They do not accept score reports from college board, so trying to figure it all out ?

Glad it worked out! Is UTMB your top choice school?

I'm applying to TWU too! And yes, UTMB is my top choice, but I'm just worried about my living/transportation situation if I get in. I live in the Dallas area so I'd probably move to the island, but I know for clinicals you sometimes have to drive to the medical center in Houston...and I've never driven on a highway before? Something to consider if I get in LOL. Which TWU campus did you apply too? And if you were to get into UTMb and TWU, which one would you choose?

Awesome!! I'm from Dallas too, so I applied to the Dallas campus for TWU. LOL I was actually thinking about having to drive to the medical center from Galveston.... I was reading about UTMB yesterday and saw people had said that. Honestly right now I'm very interested in UTMB because of its diversity in students. Also, I've heard that people who've attended there for the son really enjoyed it, the professors are great, and that hospitals tend to like nurses from there! I also applied to SFA and UT Health San Antonio! I actually heard back from SFA on Monday and got accepted! However, I was very surprised to hear back so early, especially since I won't hear back from the other schools until March/April. But once I hear back from everyone, I will be able to make my final decision. That's awesome that it's your first choice! Best of luck to you!? feeling very anxious about hearing back but keeping good vibes

Oh yay someone else from the Dallas area! I'm also applying to the TWU Dallas Campus. Yes, I've heard nothing but good things about UTMB. When I toured the campus last March I was thoroughly impressed! And the diversity was important to me as well. Plus, island living sounds so cool as someone who's only been to a beach once in their entire life ? Congrats on getting into SFA! I'm betting you'll have a ton of options to pick from to attend nursing school come April. Best wishes on your journey!!

are you submitting a resume? if so, what kind of experience do you have, or what makes you want to be a nurse? ?

Yes, I submitted a resume when I turned in my nursing application! I mentioned the healthcare experience I had in high school rotating at different hospital sites and earning certifications, along with my work experience at a daycare and the nursing club I was in. I covered my desire to be in a nursing in my personal statement, but I can't remember what I put at the moment.

Oh wow, that's awesome! Does your experience at a daycare make you want to go into pediatrics or something like that?

Something with kids yes! I'm also open to neonatal and L&D! I got to rotate at an L&D unit in the hospital and thought it was really cool, but I also shadowed a couple pediatricians at a clinic and got to see what they do during a day. What about you? Any specific unit you're interested in?

That's great. It seems like you probably had a really cool experience in being able to rotate those units:) and for me, I would say the same as you LOL. Kind of going back and forth the between pediatrics or labor and delivery. I like this field partly of my own personal experiences in the children's hospital, being around kids, and developmental psychology class. I really enjoyed learning the theories of development and I think that childhood is also a really formative part of life. For l&d, I really like women-centered care. Not even just l&d, but also ob/gyn stuff too. So yeah, super interested in these routes!
