The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio CRNA Program (2024 Start)

Nursing Students SRNA

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone!
I didn't find a thread for anyone applying to UT Health San Antonio's new BSN-DNP Nurse Anesthesia program with their first matriculating class starting in Fall 2024.

I am making this thread because I plan to apply, and the deadline is coming up soon in March. I wanted to create a forum for any one applying as well! Post stats, updates, questions, thoughts and opinions, etc.

Stats in the last 5 years??? Really, thats ridiculous. Thats a freshman level course in college. I can guarantee 90% of individuals have not taken that course within the last 5 years.

That's why I'm not applying. LOL amongst other reasons

Yea the newest program yet most restrictive requirements out of all the other Texas schools to include Baylor and UT Houston

I understand chemistry, but not stats. Maybe its worth a shot to apply and hope they allow it. Considering theyre not having a lot of applicants because of the short deadline.

They said in the webinar they have around 300 applicants already. Someone also asked if they would waive the stats requirement or if it could be a class in progress prior to matriculation but they were adamant it had to be finished by the March deadline. Not sure how it'll go for them as I'm sure applicants meeting their requirement would most likely also apply for the other Texas schools especially since they've all been around for much longer with established first time past rates/attrition rates.

Hi I am planning on applying! This will be my first CRNA school application so I am very excited and my stats for this app will be as follows:

Last 60hrs GPA: 4.0

Overall GPA: 3.71

Ochem: A

Stats: A

GRE: TBD planning on taking it in two weeks

ICU Experience: 3 years total (2 years in a CVICU)

Professional experience: Nurse preceptor, I also participate in clinical ladder as an auditor for the unit, member of AACN, practice council member on my unit.

certifications: CCRN and CSC

I know most nurses that I have talked to are hesitant to apply to the UTHSCSA program because of the potential "growing pains" that the first cohort will most likely experience. However, I think it would be a great opportunity and responsibility to be the first cohort. PLUS my statistics are better aligned with this program.

Has anyone taken a KIRA assessment for CRNA school applications? I noticed that TCU and UTHSCSA have it listed as part of the NursingCAS application.

Do you have stats in the last 5 years??

300 applicants? How is that even possible  TCU gets on average 250 applicants, BCM gets about 125 applicants, UTHealth Houston gets 175-200 and those are well-established programs. With the short deadline and restrictive requirements, I doubt there are that many.

Not sure, that's just what they mentioned. It was a little strange to me too because the program wasn't even accredited until earlier this year.

CRNA is becoming very competitive. Texas Wesleyan has more than 1000 and only 250 were chosen for the interview. I do believe that number

Anybody know to apply for the program on their website? I finished nursing cas but I can't find the program to apply in their website

Hi guys!

does anyone who attended the info sessions remember if they said when they would contact people for interviews? I'm guessing it should be in the next two weeks since applications close today and they said they'd have interviews on the 15th/16th of April..

good luck to everyone applying!

I remember them saying mid March we would find out if we got an interview, mid April would be interviews, and the end of April we would find out if we were accepted.

I got an email today from the school requesting that I send my GRE scores and CV/Resume. GRE Scores I had already sent to UTHSCSA so IDK why they are requesting them. CV/Resume I was unable to upload to the application after I submitted since the NursingCas applications weren't clear about uploading it from the start.
