Jesus all I hear is STATE STATE STATE it is driving me even more crazy then my LTC already makes me. I work 3-11 shift was 7-3 but changed because 7-3 was just way to much for a nurse new to LTC. I do not give a flip about state, am i nervous absolutely, this is a inquiry into how my nursing skills are, do I do my job? absolutely. Is everyone running around like chickens with there head cut off helping me any? NO I already have anxiety issues and they are just making it worse, I just wish that state would come and go already so I can breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the brush up Happy Wife! We are waiting for a visit also. A snow storm is coming in tonight...but I still have a bad feeling they will come in tomorrow. My DON is a basket case since we are now in the media thanks to an unhappy family member. Administrator resigned and 4 nurses left since I transferred there from a sister facility 2 months ago. My orientation there was basically me helping another nurse for 2 days. I had some questions answered for me by our pharmacy rep, so now I'm not as nervous. God! Just get me through it!
I forgot to mention in my previous post, the fire alarm went off during our survey (not an actual fire but not a drill)... The problem was below my floor so we had to evacuate all the residents on my hallway and a pt started with chest pain in the middle of it all!! Two surveyors watched the whole thing... Everyone ended up fine & they thought we did great. Oh and I was in a team meeting when the fire alarm first went off... I felt like saying really?? Good luck to everyone on their upcoming surveys, it is stressful but manageable.
For what it's worth, newer surveyors are being taught NOT to appear intimidating or threatening to the facility staff. Not that I personally ever would anyway---I've been on the receiving end of these things myself and know all too well how it feels. Just don't be like the administrator at a place I was in recently who sat in front of seven surveyors and told us that the non-working call lights in four different rooms didn't matter because "the residents in those rooms don't use the call light anyway".......
Oh...Wow...I'm actually speechless, and that doesn't happen often.
We cleared our visit....and are in the clear for no revisit. I actually love my current facility and job. We are on top of almost everything, they constantly have different audits going on to keep us on top of our game. The audits are non punitive...just fix the issues and REMEMBER what we're doing wrong to make us a better team!
All nurses and staff perform audits of some sort.
I feel blessed to have found this job!
