  1. Worked for this company over a year and relocated to a sister facility that was described as "so nice" and fortunately for me only 5 miles from my home. My orientation was basically a two day, help my preceptor...tour. I did bolus feeds and trach care and basically oriented myself to where everything was. It was fun but I basically knew I would be soon on my own. The facility had certified med techs but the hallway I was assigned did not. I had the medicare acute group. Alert and oriented, some acute who really need extra care and those drug seekers. I found myself drowning. I was solely responsible for 24. Admissions and discharges daily with the help of one CNA, who was trying their best also. My unit manager was finding things daily that should have been caught but I kept reminding him I work 12 hour shifts and I wasn't the only nurse working that hall. I wish administration would take a closer look at patient care. I couldn't watch it anymore. I was amazed my DON just said OK and signed my resignation. Unbelievable!
  2. LTC is devalued because most people have no clue what nurses in LTC do I agree also. My resume screams nursing home. Although I spent 10 years in home health, I'm actually glad to be back in the chaos! I am currently at my 4th "B" center and basically they are all the same. Currently we have way to many chiefs and indians are leaving everyday. I must ad that new residents are now very spoiled. My last 3 admissions all complained of not getting a private room. Not to mention a TV and food thats not even in the facility. My superiors want to to "accomodate" every little thing and then want me gone when I finally give up my keys and start charting. Despite all this ...I love my patients...a smile is worth a thousand words.
  3. Thanks for the brush up Happy Wife! We are waiting for a visit also. A snow storm is coming in tonight...but I still have a bad feeling they will come in tomorrow. My DON is a basket case since we are now in the media thanks to an unhappy family member. Administrator resigned and 4 nurses left since I transferred there from a sister facility 2 months ago. My orientation there was basically me helping another nurse for 2 days. I had some questions answered for me by our pharmacy rep, so now I'm not as nervous. God! Just get me through it!
  4. Our facility is currently waiting for "the visit." I'm a recent transfer from a sister facility that only had 3 def and only one in Nursing. Now 2 months later I'm dealing with another facilities major issues. Our administrator left and now we have the "interim" who, I'm told came to fix things. We've lost 4 nurses since I started on Dec 26, 2014. The CNA revolving door is still swinging. The MARS here are a mess. This article makes me feel a little more at ease but I fear I will be interigated on residents I don't really know since they never schedule me in the same place.
  5. I have worked both a skilled agency and a non-skilled agency. I believe you are interested in skilled. I left my non-skilled job as a Field Staff Supervisor RN. I was responsible for overseeing the CNA staff who cared for clients in their homes. I was craving wound care, I V therapy and more hands on home care nursing. The company provided me with a preceptor and we provided in home care to her clients for approx 4 weeks. Just a note...Make sure you let your employer know exactly what your schedule is then hold to it!
  6. Since I have found a great agency life has been wonderful. I work 5 days a week in the winter and when the weather breaks my husband and I go to our beach house 2 long w/e's a month!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. I hear ya MRed!! Those places that welcome you with open arms and think the "Angel of Mercy" just walked in the door are great!! They really boost your ego and seem to make all the bad experiences go away!! I still occasionally get distant comments like "Maybe I should go Agency" ...but those people still work their hum drum schedules and complain about being "on call". It's so nice to make your own schedule. Life is GOOD!!! PS. Working for a GREAT AGENCY really helps!! This one I'm at now is the third and last!!
