The Nerve!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

This weekend was my first weekend at work. We didn't have much going on Sat, but had 3 hips Sun. The cases lasted from 0800-1500 with no breaks in between. On the weekends, the staff just consists of one crew...that's me, my scrub tech, a CRNA, and a recovery nurse. So, when there are cases...it's just the doc and us.

The night RN came in last night for his shift and questioned me about why a linen cart was still in the front hallway. A LINEN CART! He went on to say that this was his "trap for day people" to see if they did anything. I told him we had 3 hips. He then asked "so what did you do after three thirty then?" I couldn't believe he even asked me that....of all the nerve! I know he doesn't have that kind of schedule overnight...they're lucky to get even one case.

So, now I have vowed to NEVER touch that d@$# linen cart. If he wants to lay a trap for me, he can just stick it where the sun doesn't shine. That linen cart will be out in that front hallway every weekend I work....it will not move an inch.

I've even toyed with the idea of putting a sign on it for him saying "GOOD EVENING...WELCOME TO WORK.".

My venting now over, I thank you for listening.

OOOH... I'd have to stick my foot up his butt...

I like the idea of the sign, lol... I think you should go with that. It makes a very good point. Or, you could put a sign on it that says "Don't touch under any circumstances - this is a trap." Or how about "Don't touch - this is night shift's linen cart."?

:)

Typical! There is always a nurse like that who doesn't have a clue or respect for the other shift. I don't work days but when I come on and see that it was crazy I truly understand and fix it later.. I would have stuck that linen cart up his anal retentive behind.

I agree with the sign lol! Don't let people like that ruin your day. You know what work you put in. Screw him. Linen Cart Nazi!:roll

Who's In Charge of The Body

All the organs of the body were having a meeting, trying to decide who was in charge.

The brain said: "I should be in charge, because I run all the body's systems, so without me nothing would happen."

"I should be in charge," said the stomach, "because I process food and give all of you energy."

"I should be in charge," said the heart, "because I pump the blood and circulate oxygen all over the body, so without me you'd all waste away."

"I should be in charge," said the rectum, "because I'm responsible for waste removal."

All the other body parts laughed at the rectum and insulted him, so in a huff, he shut down tight.

Within a few days, the brain had a terrible headache, the stomach was bloated, and the blood was toxic.

Eventually the other organs gave in. They all agreed that the rectum should be the boss.

The moral of the story?

You don't have to be smart or important to be in charge...

just an asshole.

Oh, how dare anyone communicate to me. The nerve of anyone to suggest you do anything.

Sounds like your just a bit adversarial here:eek:

Some people walk around their workplace, when on shift work, like they are a bull in a china closet, never touching anything, or doing anything, or anything. Some people believe their work, and workspace, are an extension of themself. This person may just be trying to "complete a square" by seeing if anyone would even bother to leave a clear working area.

I don't work at your hospital, so don't attack me for suggesting you lighten up. It ain't no big deal when we're talking about a cart that is on wheels. Maybe that person has past experience with folks who left a mess. Again, i am just trying to lighten this up, rather than you thinking the person is whacked just for initiating this "shift to shift" communication.

cause someone is always going to rant and rave differently than I.........but it is not always easy.........;)

...Unfortunately, just another example of "Nurse Cannibalism" -animals who feed on the flesh of their own kind - rampant in this profession... Some like to belittle others in an attempt to feel bigger or better - a sign of low self esteem! Sorry, this happened so soon in your career. Don't get too discouraged, angry, respond in a similar fashion, or allow him to take you down his yuky path of misery. Just "let it go" and calmly continue to stand up for yourself...

I like ya mario, however, in response to your response.....please keep a copy of your answer so that you may reflect on it later... after you have been through nursing school, received your license, and worked as a nurse. Thank you.

To add: the big deal was not the cart on wheels. The big deal was the insinuation that I hadn't done anything all day just because his stupid cart was still in front (not in the way I might add). The simple fact that he said " This is my trap for day people...to see if they have done anything" really ticks me off.

Anne;)

PS: I would like to add that it is very difficult to stand around doing nothing when the surgeon is waiting for you to bring the patient back so that he can get started on his case.

Hmmm...

I agree KC Chick, the linen cart is not the issue here. The issue is how hard we work as nurses, and how little we seem to be able to help each other out. What a back biting a**hole! I've got a couple of traps for him. I like the sign idea "DO NOT MOVE - THIS IS A TRAP!"

If I remember correctly, you're a fairly recent grad KC, right? I'm curious as to how long. Only because it's been about 3 1/2 years for me, and I'm hitting the point right now where the hospital politics and back biting nurses are getting to be a bit much. I'm too young to be this jaded and cynical :o

All right! I am just trying to lighten this up :-) We all know how some folks are on expodential trips. And we know how we can make them a whole number again by putting them in their square root :-)

Consider letting it go. Thats all. All actions don't require an equal, and opposite, reaction. If this person is merely looking for attention, don't give it to'em. If someone throws you a ball, and you don't want to play, move out of the balls way when they throw it :-)

Back biting...I still don't grasp this concept. I can't visualize someone biting my back, because my back is straight and has a spine, so, in order for someone to bite it, they would have to REALLY grap me and suck in my skin. Forgive my visualization.

So back biting means when someone is "messing" with you? Or, someone is throwing you a "dig" at the end of your shift, when you are leaving? What does back biting mean?
