The Infamous Wait

U.S.A. Arizona

many of us are waiting very anxiously to get into a nursing program! :uhoh3:

let us know when your time stamp is (for maricopa ccs), how long you have been waiting, if you just got accepted, or anything else you feel like sharing!

we all need some encouragement every now and then and i think it would be encouraging to see the progress everyone is making! :yeah:

you can also see where you are compared to others; either a lifetime away or in the home stretch!

there may be a thread like this that already exists, but i could not find it.

This is exactly the posting I was and had been looking for. Thank you! I just started spending time on this site yesterday. I'm going to write some detail so others won't have to go through what I went through, or somehow to avoid what I went through.

I got a terrible time stamp. I had all nursing application requirements completed by the middle of March 09, and then I couldn't get w/ my advisor. She was either booked or on vacation. I did finally get w/ her on April 7, '09, which meant I had missed the deadline for March 31. Ugh.

Because my app was in by early April, then I'd have to wait 2 more months to get my time and date stamp. At the time I didn't truly understand the whole thing, but now I do of course.

I got my date and time stamp on June 16, 2009 8:05:45 AM.

I think I was the very last of that days run, so those people who put in theirs at the end of May are likely ahead of me, but that's how the cookie crumbles. I assume I'll get in when I'm supposed to get in. I figure that 345 people are ahead of me just on that date alone. That's almost a whole semester of nursing students at all the Maricopa colleges alone!!!

I have not been placed yet. My choices are currently SCC trad., MCC trad., CGCC trad, GCC weekend and Gateway accel. --not exactly in that order.

I saw someone say they're likely up to 2/09 applications, but who really knows, right? I'm keeping my fingers crossed extremely hard for this fall but I'm overly optimistic I think. I hate to admit it, but I am alittle happy when people decide to defer their enrollment, although I realize the person who has to do it likely has to do it likely under unfortunate circumstances. I know how hard they've worked and how long they've waited, and can really appreciate their situation.

Hi Annek,

I feel for you. Something similar happened to me. I put in my application in early August of 2008 not realizing that I could have gotten an August time stamp had I put in my application just a few days earlier. I had to wait until that October to get time stamped. I finally got notified last month. I did get my first choice and will start in August. In the end it worked out for the best. I was able to do a few things this spring that I would not have been able to do, had I been in school already. Also with the current problem that new grads are facing finding employment, I rather do my waiting in the beginning. I am sure it is even more frustrating being a new grad not finding work than it is being on the waiting list fo nursing school. Hopefully by the time I graduate in 2012 the economy will be in a better place again. Best of Luck to you!

Thanks Patientlywaiting2008. Good luck to you and congrats for getting in, too! I'm encouraged that you did get your first choice and your wait was also 1.5 years which is what I was also told. At the time I got in ASU was limiting their program and the applications seemed to be pouring in! I just figure when I do get in it'll be the right time. The waiting thing is hard and can be discouraging, only if we let it!

i am happy that you appreciate the posting! i was looking for it and could not find one, so i just decided to create one... i am sorry! that sounds like a nightmare. the link that rn2bein2012 posted actually gives the exact time that the last student was placed! the link stopped working but this is what it said as of 04/19/10:

  • 2470 students are awaiting awaiting placement.

  • the "waiting" count includes applications that will not be assigned date/time stamp until the next interval randomization on jun 11.

  • the "oldest" application in the database still awaiting placement for a student that has not deferred a placement was submitted on aug 22, 2008 08:01:53 am. in this case, an applicant with only one choice that is for a low capacity program not offered spring and fall.

  • the "oldest" application in the database still awaiting placement for a student that has (5) valid choices and has not deferred a placement was submitted on oct 17, 2008 08:03:58 am.

  • the most "recent" application in the database for a student that was placed in a public pool that did not require a special application was submitted on feb 20, 2009 08:02:22 am. that "public" pool was for mb.

I agree 100%. With the economy as it is right now, it appears that new grads are having a difficult time obtaining a job. I too hope that the economy will get better by 2012 and hopefully be able to obtain a job somewhere.

I am also considering doing the ASU-MCCCD Alliance program so that I may obtain my BSN. I figure in the end, it couldn't hurt to get the BSN and I would like to continue my education to a NP. Not sure yet though.

Thank you to OP for putting this thread up.

i am definitely planning on getting my bsn also through the asu-mcccd alliance. the fact that you can lock in tuition is great!

It will go into detail regarding the tuition lock. What happens is that once you start the program, you're tuition for ASU will not increase while you are completing the BSN program is the tuition increase for the school. Hope that made sense.

Anyway, it does go into detail. It's also a guarantee to get into their BSN program because you graduated from an MCCCD nursing program. It's really a good thing when you think about it. I believe it's only 1 more year to get your BSN.

Koalakoala...

Yes, I am a SHC employee, and that is why my wait was so short. I did not expect to get in for Fall 2010, so I was surprised when I was placed. If I had not been placed I was looking at 2 private BSN programs and the MSC LPN program. I am very impatient and did not want to wait. Since this is a second career for me, I wanted to get done.

While waiting, I would check out the courses required for a BSN, so that when you complete the AAS degree, you can go right into the BSN program.

Best of luck to all who are waiting.

that is a great question. it does not work for me anymore, but when i go to my internet "history" it works. it seems like the url keeps changing. i tried it again and this is what the url was:

https://hceweb.maricopa.edu/cfide/docs/hcies/placementwtbd.cfm

i did not make it a hyperlink to see if that makes a difference.
