The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Yeah, and for those of us with a degree already, it just doesn't make sense to do an ASN when we can get a BSN in less time... there just aren't any ABSN programs that have comm college-like tuition. ;) On the other side of things, we don't need 2-3 years of stipend payments... most of us are done in 16 months vs. 24-36 months... that's a $10-25k difference, not even counting the smaller "other reasonable costs" needs, which helps to evens out the tuition difference a bit.

Plus, I'm willing to bet that HRSA is specifically recognizing the need for BSN nurses, even though they cost more in scholarship money, especially since in underserved areas nurses and advanced practice nurses play a larger role in managing patient care than in physician-saturated areas... that's a big part of what the BSN supposedly provides, more management/leadership training... and a BSN nurse is a lot closer to becoming an NP or CNM or another advanced practice nurse, and those are soooo especially needed in underserved communities.

Just the other side of the coin, really. ASN, BSN, we're all gonna get to the RN and thank goodness HRSA seems to be supporting all the routes there!

It finally came....the BSN vs. ASN arguments.....

It finally came....the BSN vs. ASN arguments.....

How is it an argument when a few people - casually and politely, mind you - discuss the implications of tuition, length of time, advanced education, personal options, etc on the goals of the scholarship committee?

Whoever was talking about the ASN tuition being very low had a great point. It is. But it's not the only factor on the total cost of funding a student, and it's not the only factor that has relevance to HRSA's stated goal of helping get medical providers into underserved communities. There's nothing wrong with having a conversation about that.

It's not an argument. Please don't try and provoke it into one. We've already proven in this thread that we can coexist peacefully even under stress. We're going to continue doing so.

Checked Experian again and no credit pulled!!!! This is driving me crazy. Should I check Equifax instead?

Hey All,

I finally registered so I could leave a post.I have checked these threads everyday faithfully, to stay updated. I am in Ohio, first group, I have recieved the emails, faxed my papers back, and have been waiting patiently or rather impaitently, I should say. I also do not have the best credit. I just wanted to let everyone know that my school rep recieved a phone call from hrsa wanting to know my schools tax payer id. Hope this is good news. Good luck and congrats to everyone for making it this far. Lets all keep our fingers crossed.:uhoh3:

Hi, I have been reading this but have not responded until now. I am in a very expensive accelerated 2 year program in AZ with an EFC of 0. I got the emails in July and responded and I also got my credit pulled on the 3rd of August by them. I was really worried about that because my credit is god awful, but on Saturday I also received that email that went to my school rep verifying I have met the contingencies. I figured that was a good sign that my credit wasn't a huge deal because she was asking for even more info from my rep. I hope this helps those of you worried about your credit scores, I know it was a huge worry for me! Hopefully we will hear from them by the end of next week, being as the 23rd is a Monday. Oh, and my rep is MC.
