The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I was absolutely terrified I wouldn't have funding to finish my last year but now I can. Good luck to everyone with the upcoming semester! I know I am excited to be going back. sorry for all the excitement I caused today...but I think I figured out what it is...and it wouldn't be the scholarship :-(

Last year's acceptance letters came regular mail, not any kind of certified, and you didn't have to sign for it.

actually - I got a two year scholarship last year, and this is my first degree. - and I know someone that already has a BA that received the emails - so I'm thinking it doesn't matter.

I hope you all get it.

Hey everyone !

Just want to say that I feel I know most of you I've been lurking on this thread for so long, checking out all the updates ;-}

To give u my info - I'm in PA, no former degree (except an AS) - going to a community college with a per semester tuition of around 1500 - 2500 (depends on county of residency) - had my Intro to Nursing this past month, starting clinicals the end of August ...

I have an EFC of 0, an almost 15 month old ...

I did my entire scholarship application the last week, because that's when I saw it posted on my school's student nurse online bulletin board, so I wrote my essays in a couple of hours and kept them under the length limit, which is a rarity for me. My recs were also written last minute obviously.

I did go around campus making everyone fill out everything but the recs in front of me and mailed everything but the recs myself in one envelope.

I have received the initial email, the ones from JV and the one telling us all not to bug them ;-}

Aside from an exchange with JV I haven't received anything since that initial batch ...

I have CL as my analyst, which seems odd since she seems to have the SE and I'm in PA (both living and school)

I have no idea if my credit has been pulled and for the first time tonight I'm freaking out, because like so many others have said in the last few days, I thought I scoured that website with a fine tooth comb looking for every possible detail, but somehow I missed that '#3' "non federal uncollectible" line. Having been laid off from not one, but two jobs during my pregnancy, my credit went from superior to hellish real quick ;-{ (so right with u MLL.. and FTStudent/Mom and I think at least 1 other person said something similar) And I know I have several, no let's say many, written off credit cards and payday loans. I do not have any bad student loan or federal debt or obligations. I do have old student loans that I paid on religiously, then put in forbearance and are now deferred due to school.

Anyway, I think that tells you everything about me that people on here tend to ask (and a bit more LOL)

Oh, and I have to say that JV is AWESOME - I so wish he was an analyst not a behind the scenes guy because he is just so helpful and likable. I have CL whom I emailed over two weeks ago asking if my docs had been received and I got NO RESPONSE, not even a 'we'll let u know if they're missing'.

I'm trying to not stress about it, and I definitely know I would still be going to school if I'd never heard of this scholarship, but as you are all so aware, it sure would make the stress load lighter to get it, and to be so close and then to not get it is going to be crushing.

Also, seeing the incredibly high amounts some people are paying for tuition makes me want to switch to a more expensive school if I get it and get my money's worth LOL - On the other hand, I'm inclined to argue that if they can give it to 2 or 3 community college students for the cost of a semester at your school, then u probably shouldn't get it - although I hope no one going to one of those more expensive schools takes offense at that, because I know u probably worked damn hard to get in there and I'd sure still want the help if I'd gone that route ;-} Full disclosure, I did actually begin the process to apply to a BSN Nursing program, but am not sure if I want to wait the extra year or two to get out there, and not sure how willing they are to transfer the scholarship if I am blessed with it. I signed all 4 years of promissary notes to try to cover my bases ...

Oh, and my school is also on the giving out the Financial Aid refunds super late bandwagon. I've never had a school give them out much past 3 weeks into the semester (and I've gone to 5 schools I think, maybe 6, yep 6 with the one now), but my current school waits HALFWAY through the semester, and then STARTS cutting checks, so last year I got my Fall refund in NOVEMBER :crying2:

I applied for full loans for summer even if it gets me less the rest of the year, just to avoid the drama of waiting, and I just got my check last week, the last week of summer before Finals.

OK, I've probably gone on to long, just had so much catching up to do, as I said I feel like I know most of u already ;-} You've kept me sane up until tonight when you've put the fear of God into me

I have no idea where I read the thing about not having a prior degree? I went back and looked at the info and I didn't find it anywhere. I guess it doesn't matter. I don't see why it would.

Hi...this is my first post here, I've just been reading what others have posted. I applied for the scholarship and am first funding with an efc of 0...I received the emails asking for bank account as well as the recalled email from JV, and my analyst is connie fu. After reading what other's have posted regarding credit checks I did the usual stressing out..I am a single mother and don't have perfect credit but I don't have any federal debt/defaults on student loans...just have personal debt. I emailed cf about 20 minutes ago to ask exactly what they are looking at when looking at the credit report (I had my credit pulled through experian on 8/5/10) and she replied saying that my credit check with NSP was good and that they only look at federal debt. I hope this may help to bring peace of mine to anyone who is stressing over credit checks :)

Now I get to play more of the waiting game...I really wish they would start sending out notifications soon, the wait is killing me!!! Best of luck to everyone who has applied!

Welcome guys!

Ya, CL... not the most helpful analyst so far! She seems very overwhelmed and not capable of handling all the paperwork PLUS the people! lol Hopefully after all of the awards are made, and maybe she doesn't have as much on her plate, or desk!, she will be more helpful! I know if I get the scholarship there are a couple of relatively complicated questions I need answers to!

Thanks for the credit info verification! I'm sure that helps many of us rest easier... though I don't think you can completely make us rest easy unless you can make them send letters! :) It makes me feel much better to know that someone on the "inside" says that we will def know by August 24th. That's the day after I start school, and I'm going to have to go ahead and accept my loan awards, but better one more semester than four! :)

Thank you for the info! That is a great relief! :yeah:

That would make sense but I sure hope that's not what they are doing. From what I've read on previous post, people have been awarded from private schools.

Ya, my school is 20k plus a year, but I didn't necessarily choose that. My husband and I have four kids and we live in a town that has relatively low overall cost of living. Because we own our home, or are buying however you want to put it, we had to stay here for me to go to school. Which left me limited to our one and only BSN option, an expensive private school.

But I can certainly see the point, more people could get the scholarship if it were only awarded to those will less expensive tuition! Without this scholarship I will still go to school... I'll just pay for it for a long time! I didn't even know about this scholarship until shortly before it was due, I applied expecting to not get it, realizing that that the odds were slim. I'll be stoked if it happens! If not, you can bury me in student loan debt if that's what it takes!
