The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

JoeNurse, I think we have to remember both numbers are estimates. Everybodys tuition is a differect price, a much different price. Theres no way they can know exactly how many they are giving untill they score every one in the preference group and start adding the numbers together...if they still are checking peoples credit I don't think its possible they have a firm number yet.

I agree with you, I think most of us will probably get the scholarship. PLUS, if some people's schoarship is 700 for the year and some sre 18,000... then who knows how many will get it.

I think you have to remember that the HRSA people aren't allowed to tell you if you've got it or not . . as much as you want to know . . they will not let you know until you get that golden letter. Last year we passed the date that the approval letters were supposed to go out . . and I told them, "bummer, I guess that means I didn't get it" and the analyst told me just because we passed the date doesn't mean that you didn't get it.

I know it's stressful, but this is a grant that could me $15-16000 in your pocket, and full tuition -- is it worth the trouble, good gosh yes. I know it's late, it's always late, just well worth the wait.

WELL worth the wait

Thanks for thinking of me! :) I hope that's the case. However, I suspect I'm an alternate.

Okay, to the person who called after faxing all of their stuff in and the analyst told them they were not "on their list." I can't remember who it was, but as I was waking up this morning, for some reason, that post came to mind. It dawned on me... now I didn't hear the convo obviously, but is it possible that he was telling you that you weren't on the list of people he didn't receive docs from??

Just a thought! Like I said, it randomly popped into my head as I was waking up this morning. Hopefully this helps!! It would make absolutely no sense for you not to be on the analysts list at all when you received al of the emails!

My analyst cc an email to my program director and the registrar office to confirm that I finished off the spring semester and that I will be starting my program in the fall! Good sign!! This email was sent at 11:55Am this morning so that means that they are working weekends which is really weird. They are really on it this year which is great!!!

I'm so nervous because I don't even have an analyst and I didn't receive the emails in July. I go to school in Indiana. Is there anyone else on here who is going to school in Indiana or anywhere in the Midwest area that did or did not receive the emails in July asking for banking info?

Thanks Esokitty! I have good/fair credit. I don't think that determines if you get the scholarship or not though so no worries! Good luck to you! :yeah:;)

I just know that I personally am confused. I thought that the credit check was ONLY for defaulted federal obligations, but since reread the eligibility requirements to see:

  1. NSP applicants who have a history of not honoring prior legal obligations, as evidenced by one or more of the following factors, may not be selected:

    1. Default on a prior service obligation to the Federal government, a State or local government, or other entity, even if the applicant subsequently satisfied that obligation through service, monetary payment or other means;
    2. Default on any Federal payment obligations (e.g., Health Education Assistance Loans, FHA Loans, Federal income tax liabilities, federally guaranteed/insured loans such as student or home mortgage loans, etc.) or non-Federal payment obligations (e.g., court-ordered child support payments); or
    3. Write off of any Federal or non-Federal debt as uncollectible.
    4. Since I have old charged off credit cards, I am seriously worried now!!!!!

Oh well, deep yoga breathing! Que sera sera!!!!

Was your paper work from school that you submitted with your application not filled out correctly, is that why she sent the email or does it seem like it was a general email that would be sent out for all applicants?

I bet it is an email to those whose school hasn't turned in the info...but I could be wrong
