The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Dang, I had no idea that some waited that long. I though everyone got theirs when school started. Man, what a pain. I would be even more broke if I had to wait that long. BUT then again it might work out well for you since they wont pay til Oct anyway.
I have been reading this post for a while, I just wanted to say that I spoke with a woman who works at the office where they decide who will get the scholarship (not the call center or my state representative). She was very nice, and said that they have had about 750 applicant this year and that 500 WILL get the award. She also said that after people qualify with the 0 EFC, every applicant gets scored. Starting with GPA, then EACH essay gets a score and finally a score from the faculty letter. So I know people are freaking out because they think everyone should get the award just because they have a zero EFC. However, the essays, GPA, as well as faculty recommendations have a LOT to do with who gets the award and who does not. I hope this helps some people, I know I feel better knowing that they look at the whole picture. Also, they said that we will NOT be getting any moneys until OCTOBER. However, they will give us an award letter that we can give to the financial aid office stating that our tuition will be paid in october. So, I would contact your financial aid office and see how your school works as far as that goes. She also said that we WILL know by the 24th of Aug. Good luck to you all and I hope this helps. :)
So just to confirm, did she say that EVERYONE who is considered a "finalist" will have credit pulled - are they pulling credit on all 750 applicants? Or are they only pulling credit on those that qualify and have been chosen as a "finalist"? I am curious because on last years thread, everyone who had their credit pulled rec'd the scholarship...and of course it's at least a good indication that you are moving forward in the process.

From my understanding of what she said everyone that is a finalist will get their credit pulled. She said that most people have not had their credit pulled yet. I have not had mine pulled yet, but I will feel better once I get mine pulled.
Man after this new insider's info I am not feeling so good about getting this dang scholarship. That means over 250 people who have jumped through the hoops this past month faxing stuff will not be receiving the scholarship.......
To answer Joe's question. I already have a BS and I will begin my last year of my BSN this fall. My nursing prereqs and nursing classes GPA is 4.0 and my overall GPA is 3.8. However, I don't think the GPA is going to be that big of a factor.
I just want to wish everyone the best of luck with getting this scholarship and truly hope that everyone who posts on here is a recipient. I also hope everyone has a wonderful year in nursing school and congrats for getting this far!!!!
Hi, everyone. This is my first time posting here and I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the information and words of encouragement. I did not receive that initial email back in July asking for the banking info and to sign the contract. Even though I was told that if you didn't receive the email it doesn't mean you didn't get the scholarship, I still feel very nervous and on edge about the whole thing. I just wanted to wish everyone good luck and to let you guys know that I haven't given up and you shouldn't either. This scholarship is not the end of the world for us. We have all made it this far without it and we will all make it even farther. So to everyone, just have faith and good luck at your nursing schools!!!!
Well dang, if its on GPA, I'm out, lol. I didn't have a perfect 4.0 going into the program and after getting 3 C's and 1 B in the 4 nursing courses I have taken so far, my GPA has dropped to 3.25 (that was at the time of the application, now it's even lower because the class I was in at the time earned me my 4th nursing C). So sad how much it drops a lot for a B or a C grade but then for an A grade it only goes up slightly. Sigh. I'm slowly accepting the fact that C's are OK, but its still hard to swallow. I have only had 3 B's in college and everything else was an A, so getting C's hasn't been easy. Anyway, I'm starting to rant, lol. (By the way, I didn't remember them asking us about the pre-req GPAs, just cumulative. Guess I missed it).
Also, about the Pell money from school. My school always disburses the leftover money about 3 weeks after the class begins. They have already set the disbursement date for fall for us as the week of September 13th, so I guess every school is different.
I have a question, not sure if anyone can answer this or not. How do they know if we are taking classes over the summer or not in order to give us the stipends for July and August? I know they asked on the school verification form when the fall term began, but I had to take a nursing class this summer, along with a humanities class that I need in order to graduate from my program and I have no idea how they will know this. Any guesses?
sunraygurl.... I have the same question. I'm assuming that if we are selected, they will give us more information on that. They will probably give us a chance to send some sort of proof that we were in school. I was taking a long summer Pathophys class. It started in June... but I took my last class yesterday.
