The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

Published

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

exactly manna, thanks for posting.

i guess this place is getting away with it cause they're private??

There are still a lot of female colleges in the U.S., most of which I believe are private. It's always puzzled me at how they can get away with not admitting men. Perhaps it's just that people don't tend to challenge it. There are so many schools to choose from, I personally wouldn't want to get into a big legal battle just so I could attend an all-female school. Doesn't really seem worth it.

Yeah, I don't see the problem with gender-exclusive private schools, but I can understand the complaint against a school who receives state/government funding yet still refuses to admit men or women. Gender should not be a factor in the admissions process in those cases. It's a matter of principle for some, I suppose.

So how's it going Manny?

Whew! Do you really wanna know? heh :D

Me - I've mentioned this already, but I can't wait for classes to start. I'm a total nerd - I just love school, homework, learning.. any of that stuff. I feel like there's some sort of void in my life when classes aren't in session. My chem course begins August 19th, but I'm going to have to miss it for parent orientation at my son's school. My online classes don't start until August 25th - which reminds me I need to order my books TODAY!

Apparently some of my enthusiasm for education must have rubbed off on my 5-year-old - he's been asking me "how many days until kindergarten" every morning when he wakes up for the past three weeks. They begin August 21st.

I just got my computer back up and running - I got that crappy virus... my newest geeky computer endeavor is to re-build my personal webpage...

Oh, we have a new family member now - a brand new, 8-week-old, black-and-tan chihuahua puppy. She adorable. Now if I can only keep the toddler from chasing her around the house! LOL

If anyone ever wants to keep up with even more boring details of my pretty much ordinary life, I have a blog you can check out at http://www.livejournal.com/users/mannatat

So pretty much same old, same old daily grind around here. Work, kids - you know the drill, I'm sure. :)

Add another male to the group. I just finished my ADN degree and am starting to study for the NCLEX. My wife is thrilled that I am out of school, but she knows I'll eventually go back for an advanced degree. After all, I have a BS in Biology and now the ADN so I might as well keep adding to the debt with more school. At least the kids can see that when you really want something, you can do it, although it takes a lot of work and a very supportive family.

Shawn

welcome shawn!

manna -- sorry i asked :chuckle

Hey guy's

It's great to see a guy's club here. I'm a 31 year old CNA now and start my ADN program on the 25th. I'm not sure how many guy's will be in my class but I do know a few.

welcome steve.. im hoping we can all share our experiences once we start the program.

Yep, here's another...37, father of two, married and changing careers. I'm working on my prereqs right not, just finished A&P I and II this summer. YIKES! But, I lived through it w/ an A and a B+. So on to this fall w/ Micro, Nutrition, Math for Health Pros, and Dev. Psych. I'm looking forward to a more "normal" semester. I'm applying to a BSN program that accepts 40 out of about 100 applicants.

I think there's about 10 other guys in the running right now. Let's stick together and see each other through this!

By the way, Agent: Love your photo of Bristo! I'm a total Alias addict and can't wait until the season opener. Do you happen to know when it is???

Wow, you took A&P 1 and 2 this summer?!?! And I thought my 10 week microbiology course was difficult...

Welcome to the board and good luck this fall!

Thanks for the welcome, Todd. Yeah, I finished A&P I and II this summer and thought I'd pull all my gray hair out, which would pretty much make me bald! The last 2 weeks were the toughest and I blew my A on the last 2 lecture exams. But, oh well, I feel blessed to have gotten what I got.

I hope Micro is okay this fall. I've heard mixed reviews. How'd you fair in it this summer?
