The first day....alone

Well my orientation has come to an end. I start tomorrow on my own. Pt ratio is about 4-5 on most days, funny thing is my last day of orientation I had 6 patients and 1 admit at 6pm, at 9 am my telemetry pt went tachy into the 160's and had to be slowed with metropolol and montiored, then sent for a VQ scan and trops drawn over the next few hours. I managed to keep it all together and didn't fall on my face....

Manager, preceptor, and lead charge nurses all say I am ready and keep asking how I feel about it.... Do I need another week, things like that. I don't think another week is going to help me anymore....

Problem is I oriented on a different unit, not different floor, just a down the hall and around the corner from where I will be working starting tomorrow. I know most of the RNs and techs from the break room, but haven't really worked with them at all. So I am feeling a little anxious. Guess I will take a benadryl and hit the bed... I hope I don't have a crazy day tomorrow...

Wish me luck! :caduceus:

Good luck Steve!

Sounds like you did a good job in orientation. Just remember, even though you are technically on your own now, you are never really on your own. You have entered a wonderful profession. You are now one of us. Don't be afraid to ask for help and remember to offer to help your colleagues when you are caught up with your own work.

Congratulations and best wishes for a great day.

Good luck! Don't be afraid to ask for advice or help if you need it. You'll do great!

Good luck Steve! I will be in your shoes in a few more months. I'm already scared. It's good to hear Music say you're never really alone. That's comforting to hear.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions. Better safe than sorry.
