The fate of camp this Summer

Published

I'm wondering what the fate of camps will be this Summer due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I know our Board is having a teleconference next week to discuss. Our camp hosts international campers and staff. I'm sad to think that camp may not happen this year. Too soon to make a decision? Probably. However, I'm not confident that this will be over before our camp season begins.

in 10th grade you get a trip out, 11th grade is a group trip to Israel, 12th grade you get to be a CIT.

This sounds exactly like the NH camp my two kids attend. Israel is currently closed to foreigners so there would have been no place for those kids to be for their 4 week trip. Camp called it yesterday so there are a LOT of devastated kids right now. My own two are thankfully OK about it. I told them weeks ago that it was doubtful it would open, so they were at least prepared for the possibility.

I am scheduled to work at a camp in PA July 11-18. As of right now they are saying they are still opening. I am very curious. The county that the camp is in is Green status as of end of May, so I am assuming it is still a go. Good luck- who kn owe, maybe it's the same camp ?

What is camp nursing? Do camps need RNs?

Yes, both residential and day camps employ RNs to provide care to campers, dispense medications, etc. Many school nurses work at camps in the Summer when schools are not in session.

Update...

The camp I volunteer with just finished it's first week of residential camp. Camp ran very different this Summer but I don't think it really affected campers as much as I was concerned about. I think most kids are used to adapting to new procedures/ processes etc. There were hiccups here and there from a programming/ logistics standpoint but they were worked through. I also saw so many amazing ideas implemented - one of my favorites was we had hand washing stations that were contracted from retired canoes. There were many safeguards implemented which I'm sure not everyone was thrilled with but it allowed us to offer a great camp experience balanced with safety!
