douglask, smat1, dstep102570: as a newer tcn student its easy to get discouraged with all the negative comments...(i feel like everyone is telling me im a total idiot for using tcn) so, i appreciate seeing the positive experiences you all have had -- i wish you'd post more!!

The amount of work (and money!) can be overwhelming at times, but believe me when I tell you it is worth it! I saved a lot of money in the long run by going through TCN. I would have spent much more time and money if I had enrolled in the traditional courses, compared to what I spent at TCN. They have been a great support for me all along the way.

I am going thru TCN.

Are they necessary? No.

Are they helpful? For me, yes. I use the modules for a basic layout and a beginning point. Then I move on to the in depth reading from recommended textbooks. I also bought Studyguide 101 and they are from 2008, not current either.

But they help too. Excelsior's site recommends you study from more than one source so I am.

To each their own, I knew I'd need additional help sometimes, I have it.

The modules could be better, more in depth but like I said I have figured out a use for them. The TCN Practice Exams (2 each subject) help too. With the free Excelsior's content outline test, 2 practice TCN exams, and Studyguide 101 has a bunch I have plenty of practice exam resources.

Like I said to each their own. You know how you stand as a student. That's what it comes down to, what do you need to succeed? I can't tell you what you need or don't need, nor will I. Just letting you know my personal experience.

My TCN advisor was up front, got out the modules for me to look at, went thru an outline of what I needed to do and told me several times I would have to apply to Excelsior to get into the nursing program. He was nice and from what I read here, an unusually honest person. :)
