I'm looking to go from LPN to RN online. I saw that prereqs can be done through The College Network, although they are not an actual college. What college program does this lead into? Is this different then Excelsior? Or is The College Network and Excelsior connected? Also, are there any other LPN to RN (not BSN) programs done through distance learning? I'm aware of Indiana State University, but they are only BSN. I am just trying to get a feel for the different online programs, the pros and cons, costs, length of time, etc. Also, I live in VIRGINIA and want to make sure any program I get into is recognized by the Board of Nursing. Any help/input would be much appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

The College Network is not an actual LPN-to-RN program, as you already know. It is nothing more than an overpriced publishing company engaged in the business of selling study materials that eventually lead to an Excelsior College degree. Therefore, Excelsior College is really the school you're dealing with.

Most people are able to earn their LPN-to-RN bridge degree from Excelsior College without going through expensive publishing companies such as the College Network. Excelsior is not connected officially with The College Network. Buyer beware.

Virginia will no longer allow EC grads direct licensure by exam. You'd have to work in another state until you have 960 hours of practice as an RN to endorse into Virginia.

If you do a search on this forum you can find more threads and posts on The College Network than you can shake a stick at. The bottom line is that they are a waste of money for the majority of students. If you feel they have something to offer, then go to ebay and buy their study guides used, for $15 to $30 apiece, instead of more than $5000 for a binding contract with them. Also do a search on distance nursing programs, excluding all links to publishing companies. The schools have their own links that normally end in ".edu". You can read about Excelsior at http://www.excelsior.edu for example. Or almost as easy, look at the stickies at the top of this forum for the more popular programs.

I second what everyone has said! College Network offers over priced study material for the Excelsior College ADN and Indiana State LPN-BSN program. Thats all and nothing more. Some people go through them because they will finance the cost associated with the program and charge you something like $125 for 5 years. ($7500). This is what they quoted me and I had all my prerequistes done except of microbiology. If you need more prerequistes to complete, add about $750 for each course and see how crazy of a number your will come up with. This will also increase your monthly payment.

Another thing. You still have to pay them all of this money even if you do not complete the program. I know at least 4 people personally that signed with TCN and realized that they were not displined enough to do the program. I also hear they will garnish your check if you do not pay!
