Has anybody heard of The College of Healthcare Professions? I am interested in their LVN to ADN program. Does this college take in alot of students? How much is the program? How did you like the program?

Schools maybe expensive for nursing but its worth it because your doing what you love.

You will not love it very long when you realize you are now in crippling debt that nursing does not pay enough to let you both repay that and still earn a decent living.

There is zero reason to pay that kind of money to become a nurse. Earn you way into a school that has a reasonable cost and a good reputation. The only thing worse than being in that kind of debt is being in that kind of debt with no job.

These schools are good for those who can't get into a traditional RN program it just cost.

This is willful blindness. They are not as good as "traditional" schools. In general more than half the people in them fail out because they were not qualified academically to be there in the first place. Of those who do manage to graduate, a large chunk do not go on to pass the NCLEX. Of those who do pass the NCLEX, they face huge difficulties finding quality work because employers are very aware of the substandard education they are getting at that school.

This is what is referred to as "predatory lending". They are willing to give loans to students for these ridiculous tuition rates and they admit EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO GO - whether that person has the ability to learn the material, tolerate the schedule and produce the results or not. There is a reason for admission requirements in traditional schools and it has a lot to do with the ability to handle the coursework. At these for-profit schools, those who flunk out, don't pass NCLEX or can't find a decent paying job are still legally required to pay back everything they borrowed to attend this school. It cannot be dismissed in bankruptcy court and it doesn't go away if they don't make it through. Now this person not only failed at their "dream", they have massive debt on top of the failure. Sadly, the odds of failure are high and it isn't even the person's fault necessarily. These schools are horrible.

If you aren't qualified to get into a reputable school, do what you have to do to get qualified. You are going to be worse off than you are now going this route. It is a very, very poor decision. At a minimum look up how much the interest is and how much the monthly payment will be and for how long. I promise you will be shocked.

I took a chance when going to a regionally accredited school for my LVN and most of your cons that you mentioned for for a trade school didn't happen to me. I was able to graduate the VN program, passed Nclex after second try, and got a job. My job may not be in a hospital but I was able to get work in long term care and private duty. I did check the pass rates for Nclex through The College of Healthcare Professions and they have only have had the RN program for three years. The first two years of being open they got 65% pass rate and last year they got 95% pass rate. I wouldn't just quite yet go and apply to the program any time soon until I see the schools progress on Nclex pass rates. Most jobs don't really consider the school went to but the experience the candidate has.

This is true for an experienced RN, but you will be a new grad once you have your RN degree. Your LVN experience will not be considered when you apply for RN jobs. Hospitals DO look at the accreditation of where you went to school and the quality of that education.

I am obviously not going to change your mind, so I wish you well. I would not wish that kind of debt for a nursing degree on my worst enemy. It will haunt you the rest of your life. Good luck in your future endeavors. Hopefully others reading will take heed.

Thank you so much, but who knows if Ill even get into that school since I am in California and that school is in Texas. I do not know if I would want to move in ten years or so. I have a pretty decent job making enough money for needs and some wants. I do believe these schools do not just accept anyone but those with healthcare experience, high entrance exam scores, and high gpa's. Besides the only unit in the hospital that I want to work in is Behavioral Health/Psych. Other then this unit Im fine doing private duty. I know not alot of companies hire RN's to do private duty but I can definitively get job doing private duty which I am doing as of now.

In California most private schools with the ADN program is about $85,000, so to find a school for half the price that only accepts LVN's seems like a good deal to me.
