The college bookstore is so frustrating

The second year nursing staff gave homework assignments when the first years finished up this last May, to complete over the summer. The bookstore would not sell us the books in May because they were saving them for the accelerated program students. Then they ran out :angryfire and 2 months later they still don't have the books in. School starts the 22nd of August and we are to have the complete text of " The Manuel of IV Therapeutics " read before class begins. I read pretty fast so I know I will be able to read it fairly quickly when it comes in, but it sure would be nice to get started.

Have you tried to find the book on-line? You will probably get a much better price as well.

but once you get that isbn # ...go to town on the internet

try

http://www.bigbooks.com

http://www.bn.com

http://www.amazon.com

you will find substanstial savings ..

are you getting a book voucher ? that might pose a problem b/c you usually need to buy the book from the school then.. i think?

not sure how the book voucher thing would work online

You know what I've found, if you spend the $25 on a Barnes and Noble Membership you can save 10% on all your books and shipping is FREE! For my first semester of NS that adds up to over $100 in savings. If you have to buy them new you might as well do it at a discount!

Does what you guys are saying apply to those who are using their financial aid to pay for their books? I would really like to save money as well, but because I'm using financial aid money I didn't think I could buy my books separate from the school. Does anybody know a way around that?

I checked into B&N also (already a member), and it's definitely the route for me.

Patty, that's the only problem. If you purchase the books elsewhere, you can't use financial aid. The school will disburse the money to you, though, if you don't use it. So, if you have a credit card you can use until you get the money you can still take advantage of the savings. I know I get any leftover funds from my school usually by about 1 month into the semester.

Yeah...I should have known. Doesn't the interest the credit card charges make the savings you once had go away? But I guess if you need cash (which I do :rotfl: ) that's still a good option.

What I planned to do is use a credit card and then pay for it as soon as I get my check from financial aid...interest shouldn't amount to more than a few dollars by then, so I'll still save, right?

That is what I'm doing. I hope to have my funds before or around the time my bill comes. :)
