The Circumcision Discussion

Specialties Ob/Gyn

I know this can be a HUGE debate, and I'm not looking to start any arguments. I was just wondering as you are OB nurses. I'm expecting a boy in July and not sure if we should circ. or not. My husband says yes, it's better medically in the long run. My gpa who just turned 70 had to have a circ. due to endless complications lately.

As nurses in this area, is the medication that they use good? And what are some questions to ask my Dr. about it. I already know that my hospital i'll be at uses a med. when they perform it, I"m just wondering what you all think.

Thanks

Jen :)

If I ever have any sons, they will not be circ'd. I can't imagine cutting off a part of their body without their permission, especially when there is nothing wrong with it. I won't even pierce my 16 month old dd's ears, since she can not give consent. I will pay for the circ for any of my sons if they want it done when they are of age to consent. Not my member, not my decision.

Lengthy lengthy discussion a couple of weeks ago on this very site;

Circumcision cuts HIV rates in half;

Of course all who disagreed felt it was some vast conspiracy to harvest foreskins for the cosmetics industry.

Finally..."proof" that God made a mistake!

Hmmm... Maybe God intended for monogamy. Then there wouldn't be the issue of transmitting HIV.

Gooey,

You dont' ask your children permission when you get them vaccines, why is that? Because you know its good for them, you know it is beneficial. Circ's have been shown to have beneficial health aspects to them. I posted four different articles on circumcisions back on page 6 I believe it is, from well known peer reviewed journals.

Being a male that was circ'd I am happy that I was as a baby instead of having to deal with it when I was older, VERY HAPPY. Men are very sentimental about their memberes especially when it comes to going near them with a sharp object. You see far more getting circ'd when they are older vs getting "re-foreskinned" Not to get too in depth, but the partners that I have had were pleased that I was circ'd, they were worried when they found out I was from Germany that I would have that "icky foreskin". Not that I care either way what my partner is, I just want someone to love, but certainly prefer circ'd over non-circ'd.

None of this was meant to be mean, or question you as a parent, etc, please don't take it that way.

By the way, you can have the foreskin separated from the head of the member, in order for it to retract, without circumcising. That's the first step of circumcision anyways.

I'm almost afraid to post! This is only my opinion!

The uncircumcised member is just downright ugly! I'm sorry but it is. Not to mention nasty most of the time. Soap and water once or twice a day, even three times a day just isn't going to get it.

Oral sex would be absolutely out of the question unless possibly right out of the shower. :eek:

I hate to say it but you are right Dixiecup, once or twice a day doesn't "cut" it. Bad pun sorry.

Do your own research.

Hmm, I am not the one who is making vocal, unsupported statements and judgements here. I have an open mind on the subject and thought the people making the strong for and against statements might support thier views with something other than emotions, personal point of view, and anecdotal evidence.

I am interested to see what someone motivated to support their own view will find.

I am surprised that someone who has choosen a screenname of an animal so often used as a symbol of peace (and with an olive branch to boot) would be so short and dismissive.

And you know this how, as you've already stated you have been circ'ed since birth?

Personally I'd rather stick with the medical side of this all. :uhoh21:

Seriously.... I can talk about another person's personal preference which oppose all of what Dixiecup said; writing that way about a certain group of people doesn't do much good in the long run.

"The AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) do not endorse the procedure as a way to prevent any of the medical conditions mentioned previously. The AAP also does not find sufficient evidence to medically recommend circumcision or argue against it."

There's pros and cons to both sides, and its an individual choice. Nothing so strong one way or another to really necessitate either option.

Saying that uncirced memberes are ugly is an extremely subjective statement. It's like saying red hair is ugly. Uncirced memberes are the way nature intended for men to look, not a birth defect. I doubt many people who live in countries where circ is not the norm say intact memberes are ugly.

Soap and water once a day is plenty in my experience. They are going to be nasty either way if you don't wash them.

And the best way to prevent the spread of HIV is still abstinence and failing that, condoms.

Sorry, but your post is overly explicit, just my opinion. I also have to differ with you on the asthestic superiority of a circumcised member. In my opinion it's appearance is more vulgar...:coollook: It is an immodest, brazen, and naked appearing member, with nothing left to the imagination. I agree with the Greek standard of male beauty, which is definately uncircumcised.:cool:
