The baby is frank breech

My daughter is 27 weeks pregnant with our first grandchild. The baby was frank breech in the ultrasound done today. What are your thoughts as to whether or not he will still turn vertex? My daughter was frank breech. I know it's not heriditary, just interesting if he stays breech. Thanks!

The baby has plenty of time to turn.I would not be concerned at this point.

I have seen double footling breeches delivered lady partslly. At the time I started OB

most of the breeches were delivered lady partslly.

Now I don't think you wiill find many docs delivering lady partslly.

Not to hijack the thread, but wondered if some OB nurses would mind telling me...I am a twin, born 40 years ago. My brother came out normally, I was delivered breech. Would they allow this kind of birth today? Just curious.

There is usually plenty of time to turn that second twin from breech to vertex. That's why there are often two docs (or a doc and midwife) at a twin delivery so that they can assist each other and manuever that secopnd baby into an optimal position.

My DD was transverse until 28 weeks and turned sometime before 32 weeks. So there's hope:)

We deliver vertex/breech twins (under double set-up). And actually had to precip a doubling footling breech last summer (oh my god)... nothing like looking at two little feet sticking out of the lady partsl opening with the doc 20 minutes away!!

I am a twin- my sister was vertex, and then I was delivered breech (this was 31 years ago). I asked my mom about it, and she said all she could remember is after Jennifer was delivered, the MD had the nurse turn the mirror away so Mom couldn't see and then had the anesthesiologist (!) "push on" her belly (!!) for a while until I was delivered.

I keep waiting to work a lady partsl twin delivery, but so far all the multiples I've been present for have been sections.

Overhere you wouldnt get a scan at 27 weeks and it would be difficult to palpate acurately presentation at this stage. As a midwife in the community after about 32 weeks I would put a watch on anyone I felt had a breech presentation, and if I was still concerned I would send for scan at 36 weeks for confirmation. 27 weeks is far too early to be concerned about a breech presentation.

Here in Uk you get ONE scan and that is at either 16 or 20 weeks and unless there is a valid reason for doing one you dont get another. You can pay and go private for a scan.

Remember health care is Free in this country-so in pregnancy a midwife has to rely on skills. I do believe there should be a 36 week scan because we do miss breech's occasionally.

There are still a resonable amount of lady partslly born twins though C/S is a mode which is prefered more and more often and the second twin is nearly always breech.

Really, that just wouldnt happen in this country unless anybody knows something different. They would just do a lady partsl breech delivery for the second twin.
