where you are getting report of a patient coming from L & D....and you are an ICU nurse.....and everything is absolutely horrible, the patient rolls in looking pretty close to dead...and then
your fantastic teammates jump in, and help get the tons of stat orders started the intensivist stays at bedside, and everything gets done.
The best part: the patient is getting better, we went from thinking "she's going to code...she's not gonna make it and her baby is not gonna have a momma" to "thank you god, praise everything great on this earth"
Sorry, I just had to share, I'm absolutely elated for this unexpected good outcome.
She was a routine labor, turned emergent C-section than went septic on top of DIC.

The biggest reason I LOVE Nursing.
We've had a couple of patients transferred right to my heme-onc unit from L&D for management of their acute leukemia diagnosed during labor. It's the worst caring for someone with a baby only hours old.
Congratulations on saving your lady! It sounds like you had some excellent team effort.

I don't know how you do oncology, that would make me so sad.... Ugh, that's awful, a joyous time turned into a terrifying one.

Thanks everyone! It's definitely been emotional for this poor family but I'm so grateful for a good outcome!
