Thank you letter post interview

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Had an interview a while ago. I'm a nurse now on a cardiac step down but interviewed for a CCU position in the same hospital. I wrote a thank you letter after my interview (3 weeks ago). I was going through my Junk mail today and deleting them. I had realized that i got the email back (it went to my junk email) saying that the email was unable to be sent.

Will sending one three weeks later hurt my chances? Or the fact that they didnt get a thank you letter from me at all?

I'm really worried about this and can't stop thinking about it.

Phew.........it's getting way too hot in here!!:flmngmd:

Please, folks, let's all simmer down and stop the heated exchanges. No Internet message-board post is worth getting this worked up over, and as posts go, the OP's was pretty innocuous. We'd hate to have to close this thread or pull it off the BB entirely because a few members can't seem to keep the snark at bay. Keep it polite......keep it respectful. Thank you!

You need to get off your high horse, I was merely presenting a situation where a real note helped. If you can't handle a constructive comment you are in for a hard road.

I didn't get the original job because I only had an ADN and they wanted a BSN. However, I was more than qualified for the second job and yes, they told me they remembered me because of the letter.

I am so sick of the newer generation of nurses thinking they are so much better when most of them act like they are entitled to everything and your attitude to people here just underlines that.

Dear tvccrn,

You have made a valid point.

I was one of the posters who is in favor of a hand written note.

I have always used them myself for personal interviews. Conversely, I have been in several management positions and have been the DON on 2 separate occasions where I have been involved extensively in the hiring process.

The hand written notes, while not essential, do make a candidate stand out and I feel gives them an edge.

I know emails are de reguere and "21st century" etc, etc (ad nauseum) but they can be lost as "spam", accidently deleted, sent to the wrong email...as was the case in point here.

A note or letter is tangible, it makes a candidate special and makes me feel that she/he went the extra mile. Not just take a few moments away from Facebook to fire an email that may or maynot reach me.

I would frequently keep those notes, just like that facility did and offer postions at a later date.

So, at least several "great minds think alike":)

Me thinking im better than everyone else??? I don't know where you work, but where i work...we all work as a team. I honestly felt like my learning didn't start until after i graduated college last year. I look up to my peers, the nurses who have been there for 20+ years. i admire them....i go to them with questions, concerns, anything. i do NOT think i am better than them in anyway whatsoever. nor have they ever came to me with that concern.

I was simply saying that it was my decision to write an email and i am disregarding what people said about writing an actual letter because it was a decision i made. it's in the past, i can't change it. It happened.

Maybe it would have made me stand out more if i wrote an actual letter, i don't know. I probably would have stood out more if i wrote a thank you song and sang it to them as well. but i chose not to...and reason i got defensive? because my real question hardly got answered. Yes...it got lost in cyberspace. It happens with real mail too!!!!
