Thank you food from nursing students

Nurses General Nursing

Published

We (the nursing students) want to give the nursing staff at our clinical site some sort of food gift on the last day of clinical. Our instructor suggested bagels or donuts but I thought this was not very exciting. I like the Edible Arrangement fruit bouquet but if refrigeration is not available, a food safety violation could occur. Any creative, safe suggestions? Thanks! :)

We did a lot of different things for the clinical groups: cakes, cookies, etc. My biggest hits were: 1.) One time I made a layered taco dip and brought tortilla chips. 2.) For my internship, I brought chocolate dipped strawberries and 2 kinds of muffins. That was a HUGE success.

I love Edible Arrangements, and I agree, it'd probably be eaten so fast that food safety wouldn't be an issue, especially since there's nothing dairy in it.

One of those starbucks boxes of hot pourable coffee :)

Agree with PP re: Edible Arrangement. We received one for each shift on our unit as a gift, and they practically vanished into thin air, they went so fast! :lol2: And they tasted fabulous. If you want to indulge those who like sweets, get one of the arrangements where some of the fruit is dipped in chocolate. Mmmmm...

Honestly, most anything you bring would be appreciated. It is, after all, the thought that counts.

How many are in your clinical group? We used to each bring in a food or beverage. That way there was a variety of healthy, sweet and salty (and plenty to go around). Veggies w/ hummus, fruit plate, chips and salsa, cookies or cupcakes, even bread (like zucchini or banana bread). And might I suggest a fruit pizza? Very pretty, super yummy, sweet but still got the health factor with the fruit! And now I've made myself hungry... :)

There are 9 of us. Everyone bringing in something is a great idea! Going with a variety of food is smart!

Thanks for input! :)

I really do love the Edible Arrangements!

I have a bachelors in nutrition and we had to take all these food safety classes which made me paranoid about food born illness. I agree though, if its eaten quickly and no dairy a little time in the TDZ (temperature danger zone) wouldn't be a biggy! :)

Thanks for your input! :)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll talk it over with the class and see what they think. I'm looking forward to this feast for the nurses! :)

We ended up bringing in an edible arrangement, bagels/cream cheese, and donuts. We also put together an album of pictures that we had taken with various staff throughout the semester. It went over very well. Thanks again for all the suggestions! :)
