I am taking chemistry this year, and we were told to buy the books in advance. Somehow, I bought the 8th edition, and he wanted the 7th. How will this effect me by having a newer edition? We have to do the chapter reviews as homework. Will they be different problems?

I don't think that it would be a problem but you might want to double check with your professor. Has your semester started yet? There's usually a period of 2 or 3 weeks where you can return books. Good luck!

I emailed my professor for micro. The book was 11th edition...$197
I asked if I could by a 9th edition and he said yes. I bought it on Amazon for $2.00 + $3.99 shipping! MUCH BETTER!!!
He said no problem! I also used a 2 version from CHM that was 2 versions back...it just had a different cover.

Check in with your professor of course but I have found (my own experience entirely) that from edition to edition very few things change!

Nine times out of ten there's only a couple page differences in the different editions--nothing major, but you should still check with your professor to make sure it's ok.

"New Editions" are essentially the way textbook companies rip off students. :)
If you can get away with an older edition, that's always best and cheapest. The only differences are probably just page numbers and pictures. I don't know why you'd have any trouble with the newest edition, though.

Really depends on the text. For example, pharmacology texts can change significantly between versions.
Touche. Definitely check in with your professor.
