Texas Tech 2nd Degree 2016 Cohort?

Published

Is anyone applying to the Texas Tech 2nd degree BSN program for 2016? I am and thought I would start a thread on here to get some conversation going! I'm so excited about applying but am nervous about getting in!

Evennursetobe, that's a bummer about Chemistry. I'm taking Intro right now at ACC and it's so easy! Especially after taking Physiology this last semester. I've heard TCU is a great program! I've honestly only applied to Tech at this point. I don't really have flexibility because we can't move due to my husband's job (and he supports us) and I have a two year old so I was attracted to the flexibility of Tech's program. If I don't get in this time around, I'll apply to A&M's 2nd degree program and Texas State for the next year probably, and re-apply to Tech. Hoping i just get in this time, but I know there's a good chance I won't...:-/ Just so ready to know, it's going to be a long wait!

Hey everyone!

I applied last year also, received an interview and did not get accepted so here I go again! I had a 93% on Teas last year, 4.0 Science and 3.6GPA; I'm retaking my Teas next week for this year. I have 6 years experience in the Veterinary Medicine field and have been volunteering at St. David's Round Rock Medical Center this year. Last year, after receiving feedback I was instructed to get more "hands on" experience. I'm currently doing my CNA and all my course work is completed. I'm applying for the Austin location. Good luck everyone! :) It's going to be a long grueling summer!

Hi abhousde! Thanks for the info! That is crazy you didn't get in last year with those great stats and some good experience. I keep hearing that people aren't getting in due to lack of experience which is somewhat discouraging for me! I decided to do this 2 years ago but haven't been able to get much hands on experience because I have a two year old and stay home with him. I've been taking classes and volunteering but haven't been able to do much beyond that. I wish they would emphasize that more on the website? It's odd to me as well because most people pursuing this program are changing careers, correct? So, wouldn't it be difficult to get experience in healthcare if you're coming from a very different background? I'm definitely preparing myself to not get in this time around! I have a 4.0 science GPA, 3.1 overall GPA, 84% on TEAS, CNA certified, and have volunteered at hospital/shadowed with my OBGYN. We'll see...good luck abhousde!!! Keep us posted.

Hi guys! Just wanted to let y'all know I am currently in the program and will finish in December!!! (Counting down the days lol) If y'all have any questions I would love to answer or help you with! I remember how nerve racking the application process was! Good luck to everyone!! Stay positive!

ckraider thank you so much!! I know we would all love your insight. Maybe fill us in on how the program has been for you?? Where are you located? Also - my biggest concern right now is getting in without much healthcare experience - what is your take on that regarding the people in your cohort? Did most of them have extensive healthcare experience? Thank you so so much!

The program is really tough, and you definitely have to be committed as it takes ALL of your time and dedication. As far as health care experience, some had none some had tons. So it was really was a mix. A piece of advise, if you truly want to do the program and are 100% in it, be open to going to other campuses!!

ckraider14, thank you for the insight! I wish I could be open to other campuses but my husband's job is here in Austin he provides financially. That makes sense though that it would help your chances of getting in...thank you again for being available to ask questions!

Hey Everyone! I'm also applying to the TTUHSC second degree nursing program & I'm so nervous! I've read the comments and I'm sure everyone else is excited and nervous at the same time.

I have a 3.4 prerequisite gpa

3.5 science gpa (If I calculated that right)

74.7 on my teas

and I have 5 years of CNA experience in both nursing home setting and hospital setting.

I have not yet taken medical terminology nor pathophysiology but I'm enrolled to take it this Fall.

Im hoping to have the opportunity to get into this program, wish everyone good luck on their application process.

The application finally closes tomorrow!! Here goes the long agonizing wait to find out about interviews!! Good luck everyone!!! :)

Yes, good luck everyone!!! Think we'll be waiting about a month till we hear about interviews?? So exciting!

Good luck everyone!! Going from last year, it took a little over a month to hear about interviews. Our application closed the first week of July, and I was informed August 11 I had received an interview! I know it seems like it lasts forever, but stay positive!

Ckraider, what was the average science GPA and teas scores of the people in your class?
