Is anyone applying to the Texas Tech 2nd degree BSN program for 2016? I am and thought I would start a thread on here to get some conversation going! I'm so excited about applying but am nervous about getting in!

Hi! I didn't see this, and started a thread too! Oops. I just applied. My name is Anika. What location are you applying for?
Hey Anika! I'm applying to the Austin/Hill Country location...how about you? I've submitted everything except for the TEAS, am taking it on Saturday. My biggest concern is that I don't have much healthcare experience...my grades are good an am hoping my TEAS score will be too but don't have experience. Do you have much insight into if this is a big deal?

I submitted my application for the Austin location a week or so ago. I am now waiting for all of my transcripts to show up as "received". I am very nervous. Applications stress me out big time. I still have 2 classes to take as they did not approve my anatomy and physiology courses from my undergrad due to the lack of lab. Huge bummer. But I will be taking them late summer and fall.
I also work as a CA in a NICU with some girls who have completed this program. They said the program was a lot of work but they felt prepaired when they finished. Also, one of the charge nurses is an instructor for the Austin site. From what I gather from her they expect a lot out of students but offer study sessions and stuff to help with material. So you are not 100% on your own online.

So glad someone started a forum also just completed my application for Amarillo!! All I have left to do is take an online nutrition class this summer and renew my CNA license and BLS which expired a little over a year ago. Hopefully that means I can get a few more months experience in the hospital before interviews.
Hi! I applied to the Austin/Hill country location. I've heard that having prior healthcare experience is a big consideration...but I've also heard of several students over the years getting in without any. So, I think it could go either way! I have my CNA but I haven't been able to work as one yet because I already have a full time job and the one time I received an interview, they wanted me to take 3 weeks off of work to complete the hospital training, which I could not do..so fingers crossed!
Hey guys! Kawillin, bummer about your A&P courses! That really stinks but atleast you can take them in time. Meachambers, that's so exciting you've applied!! I know, I'm hoping to get some more volunteer experience before interviews as well. I have a 2 year old though and am in school so it's really hard to fit that all in. Brownsaucy, yes I've heard healthcare experience is important too. I wasn't able to work as a CNA either because those jobs don't pay enough for us to justify putting our son in childcare...so i'm just hoping that my other work experience and grades are enough! I take the TEAS on Thursday...have you all taken the TEAS?
That's great to know they felt prepared when finishing the program! I'm sure you'll get in with having experience in the NICU, that is awesome. We'll have to keep in touch - I submitted my app for the Austin location a few weeks ago and am taking the TEAS on Thursday, that's my last check off the box. I'm nervous too, I hate the waiting game!!! It's going to be a long summer! Which hospital do you work in?
I took it in December and ended up with a 96%. As long as you feel comfortable with what is in the ATI study guide book you should be just fine. Everything is in there.
