Texas Tech 2nd degree accelerated BSN 2018

Published

Is it too early to start this thread? I couldn't find another one.

I am planning on applying to the TT 2nd degree BSN program in May in hopes to begin in January 2018.

Anyone else?? Anyone in the program currently or recently have any info to share?? Which location is everyone applying?

Thanks!!

Hi Ambernsmall and Taven212,

I am also interviewing for Dallas. My appointment in on the 24th. I have a BS in Psychology from the University of Tulsa. I worked as a missionary and ESL teacher until I had children. Up until now I have been homeschooling both of them. They will be entering public school for the first time the week of our interviews. It will be a crazy week for my family! I don't have any clinical experience apart from my CNA classes. Good luck to everyone!

How long will they be sending interviews out for?

I also applied to the Dallas cohort and got invited for an interview. I got my BS in Human Sciences from Tech. My science GPA is 4.0 and my overall GPA is a 3.8. I got an overall score of 87% on the TEAS and I currently work at UT Southwestern. I would love to connect with the other Dallas candidates, feel free to email me at: [email protected]. Best of luck everyone!

Hey Guys,

I also applied to Dallas and have got interview invitations. I have a BS in chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Overall GPA is 3.125, Nursing GPA and science GPA are both 4.0. All class works have been done except psychopathology. I also haven't taken CNA class yet and have to also CLEP a History class (which sucks since every other nursing school I applied to recognized my history class). Got BLS and medical terminology cert online. I have no healthcare experiences. Teas 6 is 88% (78.7 reading, 93.8 math, 91.5 science, and 87.5 English). Good will to you all. I know many people here have family responsibilities and are making life-changing career changes at the same time.

Anyone doing this program with young children? I have a pretty good understanding of the time commitment its going to take me away from my family, but would still like to hear first hand, preferably from a former SAHM or SAHD.

Thanks

hey guys, the deadline was back in July. Is everyone's SON application portal log in still working?

Yes, mine is still working.

Hey guys!! I am currently in the Dallas cohort, and we are about to start our final semester--yay!!! You guys who got interviews will do awesome! Contact me if you have any questions. One piece of advice for those who maybe didn't have a ton of clinical experience like me---I really highlighted my volunteer work and cultural experiences. I think that the panel values your involvement in any activities outside your day to day job.....good luck guys!!! Oh, and if possible, be open to going to a different area. I.e. if you don't get into your first choice location, be open to another.

How was your first semester schedule like? Like how often did you have to go to campus and when did clinicals start for you? Also, how many people are in your cohort?

Just finished my interview here in round Rock. How is everyone else feeling?

How do you feel about it? Do you mind sharing some of the questions you were asked? I have mine next week in Lubbock.

Sure thing! It was very similar to the essay. They asked things like:

-What are your clinical experiences? Specifically, any CNA experience?

-Have you taken any nursing classes?

-Describe your volunteer experiences

-What is your experience with online learning?

-This program requires you to be a self-starter and accountable for much of your own learning. What qualities do you have that will make you successful in this program?

-This program requires a major time/financial commitment. How are you prepared to meet these demands?

-Describe your experience with diverse populations (something like this, although I can't remember the exact phrasing)

-Is there anything else you would like for us to know about you?

-Do you have any questions for us?

I am feeling okay about it. I was very nervous and I'm afraid that it showed. However, the interview panel (3 interviewers) was very nice. All we can do now is wait and hope for the best! Good luck!!! :-)
